Doesn't that string option cut into your neck or shoulder?

No, but then I never walk around with any lens heavier that a 50 cron. And I have the camera hanging over my shoulder. I guess it cuts in a bit because it never tends to slip off the shoulder as most other straps do. Anyway it is never uncomfortable. But try for yourself. Put some glue on the knots as they tend to work themself open on these man made fibre strings .

A word of warning. I bought a Nikon F100 last year to see if SLR with autofocus would be something for me to consider (it was not!) and made a similar string strap for that camera. By pure chance I noticed that the strap had been very heavily worn after just a few days' use and was close to disintegrating. Obviously not all cameras have such smooth holes for attaching the strip as Leica has. And one does not see it, hidden as it is inside the hole.

Another vote here for the Artisan & Artist silk rope - without doubt the most comfortable strap I've ever used in 50 years of toting cameras of all sizes from half-frame to RB67. These straps also fold smoothly into a camera bag.

Being woven from 'industrial' silk, A+A straps are probably also amongst the strongest straps around

Hate to sidetrack the thread, but my curiosity is killing me. What are those golden/brass nobs on your cameras??

Spirit levels, here is another model

Nikon makes the best wrist strap going. It screws into the tripod socket and has a leather(ette?) pad that cushions the top of the hand. No straps interfere with the back of the camera or controls as they come right off the bottom of the camera. It's so secure I have no problem letting my cameras dangle with arm at side. Very comfortable. One caution. The M's tripod socket location makes the mounting base of said strap stick out a bit past the camera's base. A minor annoyance but not enough to make me stop enjoying the hell out of it.

I assume so. Because of his clunky URL address, it falls into the "Out of policy" rule at the office (it's coffee time ;) )

The strap is about twenty five quid, is soft black leather and has an arrow shaped end to it with a Leica logo on.

Best strap I ever found was one from a Konica Hexar RF. Same nylon as the standard Leica strap, but with a 6" section of synthetic suede stitched (and probably glued) on one side. Stayed on the shoulder very well, but was flexible enough to wrap around your wrist when shooting.

I've stripped the gripper off my Leica straps, and that's great for going around the wrist or for bandoleer style - but not so good for one shoulder as it's too slippery.

It is. The strap is around halfway down the page. Identical to my Chinese one.
