rhom Posted June 1, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 1, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All, I just received my new CV 50mm/f1.5 Nokton LTM. Previously, I purchased a new Milich LTM8 adapter to mount this LTM lens to my M8 and bring up the proper 50mm framing lines in the viewfinder. I am surprised that when the LTM8 is screwed (tightly) on to the back of the Nokton and with the lens w/LTM8 mounted to my M8, that the aperture and focus indicator marks are not aligned at the top of the lens barrel, i.e. so that you are looking straight down on these indicator marks when looking down over the top of the camera. Instead, the indicator marks are about a half inch toward the lens release button. Needless to say, I am not achieving good focus at larger apertures when using the rangefinder. This cannot be normal. Please let me know if I may have done something incorrect in using the adapter. Is it possible that something might be faulty with this LTM8? Thank you for your help! jaapv Posted June 1, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 1, 2010 it is normal for some LTM lenses to be off-centre on the adapter ring. As long as the focussing is correct there is nothing to worrry about. If not, have the set adjusted. Where did you buy your lens? If it is with Cameraquest you will find they have excellent customer service.
ho_co Posted June 2, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 2, 2010 Rick, I don't think it's John's adapter. I bet that if you mount the lens on a screw-mount body, it'll line up just the same. Uwe is right about the adjustment screws. I think you just loosen them up and set the lens as you want it, then tighten them down again. Or ask where you bought it; they'll give you the instructions you need to straighten the lens up.
rhom Posted June 2, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted June 2, 2010 Thank you, Uwe, Jaap and Howard. I can see that I have a bit more to learn about LTM lenses and mounts! I am exchanging this Nokton for another new one from my dealer. Hopefully, this will resolve the focusing issues. I also had an email discussion with John Milich about his adapters. He said that this offset issue, while uncommon, has been reported by a few of his CV 15mm LTM customers. He said that his experience is that the indicator marks would not be more than 1/4" off of the correct position with his LTM8 adapter. Anyway, if the replacement Nokton focuses properly but has a little offset, it won't bother me now that I know what this means. Thanks Again! I was unaware of the possible discrepancy, and am glad to be corrected. Let us know how the matter works out! What is it, "for the price of an adapter a camera was lost..."? Islandmike Posted June 2, 2010 Share #6 Posted June 2, 2010 For what it's worth, my Nokton 50/1.5 is spot on position, with a CV screw/M adaptor. I coded using a slip of white sticky label stuck down into the groove on the adapror - obviously not as good as JM's solution but it has lasted several months OK. rhom Posted June 9, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted June 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just a quick follow-up note to this discussion. Today, I received my new replacement Nokton. This one still does not perfectly align with my Milich LTM8 adapter, it is about 1/4" off of perfect (toward the lens release button side). Milich previously had told me via email that he has heard of some misalignments of the CV 15mm LTM lens, but not the CV 50mm/f1.5 Nokton. Anyway, it does not bother me. The great news is that this replacement Nokton focuses perfectly at f1.5 on my M8, the previous Nokton did not. The previous lens must have suffered from some type of misalignment, perhaps due to shipping? I hope that it was not a QC problem. It really does speak to buying one of these lenses from a dealer. The problem is that the CV 50mm/f1.5 has been discontinued and dealers will be limited to their shelf stock, there may not be lenses available for exchanging problem copies. So, I now have a properly focusing Nokton on my M8 and am itching to go shooting with it! Hope that this helps anyone that may be having similar issues. Thanks again to all that responded to my original post. Best, Rick
