very often on this site the Digilux 3 is reffered to as either DLux3 or just D3.

Andreas,

To clarify the shorthand used on this forum:

D2 = Digilux 2

D3 = Digilux 3

DL2 = D-Lux 2

DL3 = D-Lux 3

The Digilux and D-Lux camera marques are quite different. The Digilux 3 is not intentionally referred to as the DLux 3 but we all makes mistakes from time to time. :o

HTH,

Pete

Hi guys, I'm a new owner of a V-Lux 1. I've been reading this forum for more than two years and this is my first time posting. I hope the dlux-3 will not be discontinued, I've been looking for it since November in the U.S. I would like to know if anyone has an experience with hearing a humming noise with the V-Lux 1, when it is turned on, with my ears close to the camera, even if the lens is covered with the lens cap. The dealer said it's normal and I asked tech support in the U.S. and they also said it was normal. Has anyone ever experienced it? What are your recommendations for a good Leica flash and a polorized filter for the lens?

Thank you for all of the information that all of you have been posting, which resulted in buying my own Leica.

Sure. The humming noise comes from the pair of gyro sensors used by the image stabilizer.

As I wrote in an earlier posting above it is hardly reasonable to assume that Leica or Panasonic would terminate a camera that was only announced in September. They could, however, issue a firmware upgrade; but that would not require that the camera's sales should be interrupted because firmgrade upgrades are installable by the user. I don't know where you have gotten this information from, but elsewhere on this forum, I think, there is a quote from a letter from Leica USA stating that further deliveries of the D-Lux 3 will be made to dealers soon. (I don't remember whether this was to be this month or in February).

I've heard that there may not be any more Leica badged

d lux 3 s...

and that Leica wanted to first address the noise problem...and then fulfill orders

I'm hoping for a new dlux 4 instead

The d-lux 3 concept is great. Manual controls, sharpness of lens, versatility, feel and look (provided it's the black one), all are unmatched by any other P&Sh. And the 16:9 ratio allows great landscape shots, under bright light conditions at least. However, already at ISO 200 noise is noticable. Noise over and above 200 I consider unacceptable. If Leica could come out with a d-lux 4 literally noise free up to 400 ISO, and acceptable noise at 800, I would be willing to pay a premium over the already rich pricing for the d-lux3, since this would simply the must have P&Sh for every passionate photo shooter.

Wow ,I just saw this tread, and have to say I too have bin waiting for my D-LUX 3 and the digiscope adapter. Put my order in December 1st. I sold my D-Lux 2 so If they don't fill my order I will be a tad %&^_*(&@#!+)_((&^%@! M A D.

I wanted mine in silver so did not buy the ones the store had. I did spend a few hours yes hours hunting on line and did find one D-Lux 3 with 2 gig card for close to 1,000 with shipping. Everyone is still taking orders for them so if Leica reads this better get on the band wagon while there still hot and fill all the orders. Make mine silver.

Cheers
