Guest ccmsosse Posted May 29, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 29, 2010 I am about to shoot my first roll of Ektar 100 pro Kodak with my Leica cm, can I expect to get good results processing it at CVS as long as a licensed pro does my work. The Kodak Ektar is developed via a C41 process - any regular store can develop that film. I have had decent luck so far with Ilford XP2, Ektar etc. Some stores were better than others, the photo prints were at times off, but the negatives were always ok. Just give it a go and see what you get. You won't find a "pro" doing the work, but that should be ok. Cheers
missouri Posted May 29, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted May 29, 2010 Thanks, Someday I hope they have Kiosks for film like they have for Digital for a more consistant quality of exposure.
Tim B Posted May 29, 2010 Share #4 Posted May 29, 2010 Thanks, Someday I hope they have Kiosks for film like they have for Digital for a more consistant quality of exposure. Oh, they used to, they used to. But I'm afraid you are a decade or two too late. I remember when I started photography over forty years ago, there were kiosks at resorts which would have your film developed and printed by the next day. Then, up until recently, before digital took over it could all be done in lots of places within the hour. Now there are still one or two high street and supermarket "kiosks" that will handle film, but they are diminishing in number and quality. But for many of us film still has a magic that makes the processing problems acceptable, or persuades us to DIY. Goof luck, Tim
contaxgary Posted May 31, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 31, 2010 I've finally given up on having others do my C-41. Pro labs are far away and expensive. The few local mini-labs are real hit and miss. Do it yourself and know that someone that gives a damn about your negs processed them, or pay a pro lab that you trust.
noah_addis Posted May 31, 2010 Share #6 Posted May 31, 2010 It's funny, but in my city my local pro lab is cheaper than the chain-store photo lab! For C41, process only it's $4 a roll at the two local pro labs and $6 at the chain store. Needless to say I go to the pro lab. You may get good results at a CVS but it may be hit-or-miss and I wouldn't expect top-notch service.
Hank Taylor Posted May 31, 2010 Share #7 Posted May 31, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been having Costco do my negative developing and included burning a disk all for under $5.00 (36 exp. roll) Here is a shot taken with a M6 and Leica 40 f2. contaxgary Posted May 31, 2010 Share #8 Posted May 31, 2010 I have recently stopped using Costco because results have become hit and miss. The biggest problems have been scratches and junk on the negatives. It bothered me enough to do C-41 at home. I use to get better service from Costco, but my local store is in the last days of film. They no longer even carry 35mm sleeves. The machine is 10 yrs old and soon to be out.

The Costco store here in Corona has new equipment that may be the reason I'm satisfied. Hank l
damaso Posted June 26, 2010 Share #10 Posted June 26, 2010 Give it a go. Kodak recommends that you use a pro lab but the most important thing is the quality and freshness of the chemicals and how well the keep things up. If you go to a place that has high turnover you should be in good shape. But as always in life you get what you pay for! Good luck!
Nikkor AIS Posted June 26, 2010 Share #11 Posted June 26, 2010 Voigtlander 15 mm Voigtlander 28 1.9 Leica 50 1.0 Noctilux @ 1.0 Leica 50 1.0 Noctilux @1.0 All images taken with Leica M film cameras Leica M3/M6/M7/MP on Ektar 100 store scans. Ektar is a great film , really good for scanning. My local lab at superstore is going to go "dry lab" in August. So at that point, Im processing at home and scanning my negs on my Nikon 5000 scanner. As far as Ektar get the exposer right. And Im sure you will like the results. Gregory
