patrick parker Posted May 26, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, There is one thing I don't understand about the X1. If I were to shoot with an M9 and a 24 mm and crop it down to the X1 sensor size ratio, would I be getting more or less same look as the X1. From "look" I only mean the similar type of distortion and angle of view . I have the X1 one but I don't have an M9 or a 24mm I would have loved to see the comparison. Oh and here's Erwin's thoughts on the X1 Thank you all. Patrick

jsrockit Posted May 26, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 26, 2010 I would think that the X1 can't compete with an M9 and 24mm lens. Considering the 24mm costs $4000, I don't think Leica could give the same level of quality to the retracting P&S style lens of the X1. That said, the X1's lens is very good and worth using...i.e. it is in no way a hinderence.

Hopefully a $11k lens/camera combo has some advantage optically, but its doubtful that you would see it in the scenario you described unless your prints are quite large. I would have to say the same, If your going to print giant prints or lets say prints above 16x20, then it would depend, but I'd like to see side be side comparisons of just that, a controlled studio or environment with shots from the same position and camera setting? when would one start to notice the real difference? and at what print final out put size? Very interesting thought, you could do it with all values including the distance, etc.. comparisons. Maybe someone here can do those tests and report back? chris m. NZDavid Posted May 27, 2010 Share #5 Posted May 27, 2010 Do check out Erwin's comments: X1 The X1 does indeed compare favorably in terms of image quality. Otherwise, each is a very different kind of camera.
