eleskin Posted May 24, 2010 Author Share #21 Posted May 24, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) That is what I did. I stuck to my M8 and bought lenses. Before the M8, I was shooting more film, mostly Medium Format due to its advantage in sharpness and smoother tones at greater enlargements. My film M's were gathering dust, and the only two lenses I had left were my 35mm Summicron v4 and my 28mmm Elmarit v3. The M8 changed everything for me drastically. Now, all of my film cameras are gathering dust, and my M lenses are being used again! Originally I had 4 lenses (dual range summicron and 90mm Summicron in addition to the 35 and 28mm lenses). I sold the 50 and 90 years ago for medium format lenses. After the M8, and since 2007, I bought the following: 15mm Super Wide Heliar ($549) 35mm Nokton f1.2 ($849) 40mm Nokton f1.4 ($299) 50mm Summicron latest version used ($700) 50mm Noctilux f1.0 last version mint ($4,699) 50mm Summitar f2.0 mint ($179) 90mm Tele Elmarit ($249) 135 Elmarit with eyes ($250) 280mm Telyt late version ($290) Visoflex 2 ($100) Visoflex 3 ($160) Visoflex bellows mint ($150) Visoflex focus mount for 135mm Elmarit ($120) Total: $8,594 USD I could add extra amounts to the value to what I bought (the Noct can get 2k more than I paid) which would be about $3,700 more than I paid due to appreciation. My 35mm Summicron is fetching $1,400 and the 28 is worth $1,200. My total value in lenses now is $14,894.00 USD. And I am still using my M8. The M9 is 7K USD. I think the lens investment was better for me. I will probably get the M9 down the road (Used?), but I am happy my priority has been in the glass!!!! Shade Posted May 25, 2010 Share #22 Posted May 25, 2010 Eleskin, in short - Yes, M9 is a an M8 with minor improvements. However, the largest two improvements are very important to me - one - being a fullframe and - two - not needing an IR filter...
