So what lens on M9 is your bokeh king?

Hi there, BKDan,

The reason that I rate the new Noct f/0.95 below the summilux 50 pre-asph and asph is subjective. I find that the f/0.95 can yield REMARKABLE results, particularly for its unique "look" wide open, but at times, it's bokeh is a bit harsher, with more geometry. Further, keep a close eye on Noct f/0.95 images. There is more blurring at the center of the image than at the periphery, where you can make out the details better, almost like the bokeh is less dramatic there. I find that this effect works for me, as it give the images a more 3D effect.

I find that both summilux 50's to have a creamier rendition, a bit more gentle, and more pleasing in some ways, and certainly more consistent... than the Noct f0.95. This is not to say that they are superior lenses. I have far more fun with the Noct f0.95, for its ability to render crazy DOF, while maintaining it's remarkable microcontrast and usually producing lovely bokeh....

Further, it is often suggested that bokeh means OOF rendition wide open. I don't use this description. I find that the lens (Noct f-0.95) improves its OOF rendition when stopped down a bit, in this case to f/2-2.8, which it gains more consistency....but I didn't buy the Noct f/0.95 for its f/2.8 performance....:D

I love the 50 Summilux for its incredible bokeh, and think the 75 Summicron is extraordinary. But after getting the M9 last year, I was able to find at Keh a 35mm pre-Asph Summicron V. 4, and I think it's extraordinary. Two samples:

There's also something weirdly charming about the CV 50mm f/1.1 Nokton:

Hi John, nice pics. However, is it me or are the leaves seen in the bokeh a bit on the geometric side, making the bokeh busy? I love what the 'cron v4 does in the middle of the image, but the periphery is a bit attention seeking to me....I had the 35 v4 bokeh machine previously, but found this a bit distracting. That beign said, it looks like the images were taken at f/2 in contrasty circumstances....

Regardless, it's so much about personal taste as far ask bokeh goes, and there's really no right answer...

Ashwin - hard to say precisely since both images are cropped. However, I like the way it blurs at the sides/edge so it is a matter of preference. That said, every time I see an image taken with the new Noctilux, I want one ;-) JB

Personally, no other lens can approach the bokeh of the Noctilux 0.95 focused at about 1 meter away. Not necessarily because it's just a nice smear in the background, but because it's a graduated flow from ultra sharp to ultra smeary. This attribute keeps it on my camera most of the time.

Michael you got any more 0.95 bokeh shots to share?

Terrific website you got there.

Thank you BKK dan. Here's one more from a recent trip to the Delft pottery factory in Holland.
