This time I bought the Panasonic version, because of the pricing, half of the Leica version, and a far better videocodec than the Leica. Since earlier I have the Dlux 4 in black and titanium, and all accessories. A friend of mine has the Panasonic LX3 and I can´t see any difference i picture quality. I have tried a blind test.

The true test of the camera comes when I´m going to Berlin. I will only bring the TZ10 and a spare battery.

Andrew they are "all most" the same but not exactly. Leica produces a not so aggressive processing of images for there image out come. Which makes for a more (natural) look and view of an as shot jpeg. same with the 720 HD video codec, more natural with the VLUX 20. Also don't forget the #1 longer warranty and #2 the software which comes with the camera. Personally the iphone 4 produces better video than the TZ10, just my personal observation though.

Like Andrew, I purchased the Panasonic version (still have my D-Lux 4 and trusty digilux 2). The price difference, plus the discount Amazon was offering, was too good to pass up. I do like this camera (and don't suppose the V-Lux 20 is all that different). It's small, so I can just carry it around in my shirt pocket, and the zoom works well. I do miss not having RAW, but I don't believe the Leica version does either. As a "go anywhere" P&S, it's fitting the bill nicely.

By the way, rumor has it that Panasonic will introduce a successor to the LX3 (Leica D-Lux 4) this month, so I'd guess a Leica version will be introduced not long after.

Check the thread heading "v-lux 20 in a nutshell" -there's a guy there who has taken a picture and displayed it taken by the v-lux 20 and i've taken a picture on the Panasonic version TZ10 and displayed that -for me the quality is super and that zoom is great. I'm just about to buy a Vlux 20 myself :)

One other reason that I bought the V-Lux 20 was because I had read the video codec on the Panasonic (which is AVCHD) requires transcoding before editing. The Photo JPG codec on the V-Lux 20 is recognised by Final Cut Pro 6 and works well in my view. That and the zoom range makes this a very useful video cam.

I have been very very happy with my V-lux 20 since I bought it in early June. (In Harrods of all places. They had just taken received their first shipment of it that day, and the price was better than in Kuala Lumpur). I bought a huge storage card with it, about 50Gig, and shot at one off max resolution for the next month on the trans siberian railway to Beijing. 1800 pics which still only took up about 60% of the card.

Now that I am back home I'm trying to make sense of all those pics.

BUT

none of the s/w packages I've tried shows the GPS info. The V-lux itself displays it (but not always, I didn't have it set to on always at first). The Adope Photoshop Elements that comes with it shows very little info. Both ArcSoft Media Impression and Panasonic PhotoFun Studio show a lot of info, but not the GPS. Vueprint does display "GPS INFO 11248" regardless of the location whenever the camera has recorded the GPS location.

Any ideas anybody?
