digbyhp Posted May 17, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 17, 2010 Michael, Short answer - no, I haven't on my M7, and wouldn't. Do you know why this is occurring on the M9? Is it inverse snobbery ? Or are some people worried about advertising that you have a $10,000+ camera hanging around your neck ready for the taking?
Guest ccmsosse Posted May 17, 2010 Share #3 Posted May 17, 2010 Is it inverse snobbery? Or are some people worried about advertising that you have a $10,000+ camera hanging around your neck ready for the taking? Great term - inverse snobbery! There is a thread "How to pimp your M9" - great comments on the M9 forum. Yes - I changed the red dot to a black and removed the M9 lettering - For once, I like a complete black look ... and I must admit I am somewhat embarrassed to even own a M9 (or M6/M7) - silly? Maybe - but then again few people can afford Leicas and i don't want to be perceived as a snob. Cheers
JBA Posted May 18, 2010 Share #4 Posted May 18, 2010 People have been blacking out the names on their cameras, and not only Leicas, since time immemorial. It makes them less obtrusive and less attractive to potential thieves, or so the reasoning goes. One reason I love the MP so much is that other than the Leica script on the top, no name or logo. Pure function with no fanfare.

Pure function with no fanfare. So I agree - but back to my question - has anyone scraped out the M6/M7 logo - can it be done - will it "ruin" the camera's paint or patina? It can be done very easily on the M9. Cheers

Cheers Yes it can be done. Easier on the black chrome & regular chrome bodies by using acetone. I asked the same question in another thread: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-collectors-historica/99765-identify-m7.html Best regards, David
