Advertisement Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Hi imported_peter_m, Take a look here Smallest Bag just for M9 and MATE for use in open car. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mby Posted May 12, 2010 Share #22 Posted May 12, 2010 I'd go with the Billingham Hadley Digital (see for example here: http://www.bjp-online.com/public/showPage.html?page=429374); also the stile would fit nicely... Wishing you lots of fun and show us the pictures! Best regards, Michael
wlaidlaw Posted May 12, 2010 Author Share #23 Posted May 12, 2010 I ordered online a Leica Neoprene case from DPM. Now that I am picking up a flight to Spain tomorrow at Toulon, I could have picked it up from their shop, very close to Toulon airport but I did not know that at the time I ordered this morning. SJP Posted May 12, 2010 Share #24 Posted May 12, 2010 A bag I can thoroughly recommend which can hold as much or as little equipment as you require, is very lightweight, and importantly, is also weatherproof, can be purchased for a very nominal price at any branch of Tesco. Cheers, Ken.Agree, I have frequently stuffed 28/2 summicrons ASPH in bubble wrap, MATE in some socks (washed - initially at least) and an M8 body between a pair of motorcyle (winter) gloves and stuffed everything into a small tank case of my motorbike. The Tesco bag is a similarly suitable method of transportation. EDIT: great car by the way!!!!!!

I will probably use a similar bag (Carrefour in my case) outside the neoprene Leica case to keep the elements out. The shock absorbing properties of the Tesco bag do leave a little to be desired. I may be able to get a real Ziplok bag from my sister-in-law when I see her on Sunday, as that is superior to a carrier bag. I know she always brings masses of them back whenever she visits the USA. WilsonOf course Carrefour is better in France:D But seriously bubble wrap is a good way of making a soft casing, it may look like cr@p but it works very well if you want compact protection. My summicron basically is a tapered cylinder (cone) of bubblewrap, stuck together with some ducktape. Slide the lens in and use the caps and it is well protected. Stephen, I am going very minimalist and only taking the lens on the camera. I was torn between the MATE or 35 Lux but decided, as I am not going to be taking photos indoors and at night, the MATE will suit. Having bubble wrap round the camera, when you want to take a quick pic, is a bit of a downer. On another subject, I really cannot understand why Leica is not selling a V3 MATE. It is such a great lens on the M9. IMHO, they would sell as many as they sell 21 and 24 Summiluxes put together. Wilson

wlaidlaw Posted May 29, 2010 Author Share #29 Posted May 29, 2010 Last week I received the long nose Leica Neoprene cover. Not an expensive purchase. It just and only just fits over the M9 and MATE, with a bit of a stretch. See photos below. Sadly it is not going to be needed for the Rallye des Alpes this year. The day the bag arrived, I heard that my co-driver (and the owner) of the Jaguar C type is currently in Monaco Hospital recovering from coming off his motorbike and breaking his leg in 8 places. My rallying is looking a bit fated this year. I have found that the 1977 Porsche 911 RS 3.0 I am using in the Coupe des Alpes in 2 weeks time, has a major transmission oil leak. I had a new Kazz LSD put in over the winter and the builder thought it was a good idea (for his profit margin) to reuse the original gaskets - grrrrr! I am on tenterhooks waiting for the new gaskets to arrive. Wilson Welcome, dear visitor! jonoslack Posted May 29, 2010 Share #30 Posted May 29, 2010 HI There Wilson How exciting - hope you're well. TheFogg b-Laika is great - but it's too big. The Fogg Flute will EXACTLY take an M9+Mate (I know this because I have one!). there is a small front pocket which will take a couple of batteries etc. It's a different mode of transport, but this is how I use it: and the M9 with a MATE was what was inside it. (it comes with a shoulder strap as well as a belt loop, but I've taken that off here.) Robert White Sell them Or, if you're in France you can go direct: Fogg Bags talk to the delightful bee berman. edit: Oh dear . .. just read your last post
