emillu Posted May 10, 2010 Share #1 Posted May 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) For those sophisticate Leica Masters, dpreview.com provides a good source where you can virtually/graphically compare lens on different camera bodies. Like this: dpreview.com - Lens Review - Fullscreen Does anyone know if there is any site that compares Leica/Zeiss lens, (specifically M lens) on M camera bodies. "Perfectly if it has Graphic, charts adn information just like the site above" Thanks!
Advertisement Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Hi emillu, Take a look here For those sophisticate Leica Masters. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted May 10, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 10, 2010 I find reviews that provide information on the pictorial results of the lenses far more informative than these pretty ( and the DPReview layout is very pretty!) graphs, that, in the end, are of very limited use and open to interpretation errors. Sean Reid is most useful for real world information.

emillu Posted May 10, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted May 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is not pretty nor useful? Does this compare different Leica M lens? NO Does this compare different Leica lens on different Leica M body? NO Please answer my question straight forward and be precise, Master!
jaapv Posted May 10, 2010 Share #8 Posted May 10, 2010 Straight answer - you are asking for the graphics of the DPReview site - The answer is: those graphics add nothing to values, the values they represent are of very limited use in assessing a lens, there are far more informative sites like Sean Reid or Erwin Puts. So you will not find the pretty graphs on other sites.
emillu Posted May 10, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted May 10, 2010 Pardon me if its my English (or its your understanding) ! The theme of my question is a comparison between different Leica/Zeiss lens on different Leica M bodies. Graphically data is secondary.

What is it you are seeking to achieve?
andybarton Posted May 10, 2010 Share #11 Posted May 10, 2010 That link gives some data on a Panasonic lens and has nothing to do with Leica at all. I'm not even sure why it's been posted here.
jaapv Posted May 10, 2010 Share #12 Posted May 10, 2010 Comparing on different bodies seems rather unproductive, You can find the performance in the centre, the field and the corners specified in Erwin Puts' lens reviews (http://www.imx.nl/photo/), (http://www.imx.nl/photo/downloads/files/llcforweb.pdf) , so you can draw your conclusions about the M8 and full frame/film there. Sean Reid (http://reidreviews.com/reidreviews/) tests Zeiss lenses as well, so that will give you some information on that brand.
emillu Posted May 10, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted May 10, 2010 That link gives some data on a Panasonic lens and has nothing to do with Leica at all. I'm not even sure why it's been posted here. I am using that link as an example, and see if there is any knows any other sites which provides the same info but comparing Leica lens specifically. To be more precise: let's say If we set to compare one Lens' performance on two different bodies, 35mm Summicron-M f2 ASPH on leica M8 and M9. on M9, the Nyquist Frequency graph will probably tell me that the sharpness (we look at the frequency level in this case) goes up to 1800, at center, when wide open. on M8, the Nyquist Frequency graph may tell me that the frequency goes up to 1500, meaning that it is less sharp, at center, wide open, it is probably because of the sensor quality and many other areas. (This info may help you choose one "camera body" over another, if one camera sensor's characteristic is producing sharper images than another) On the other hand, if we can set the camera body the same (say M9) then interchanging different Lens to compare which lens is sharper then the other on the same camera body. We get an rough idea of this lens's characteristic, performing its sharpest at center, at which F stop (This may help you choose one camera "lens" over another!) Hope you can understand what i am trying to achieve here! Thanks!

emillu Posted May 10, 2010 Author Share #15 Posted May 10, 2010 Comparing on different bodies seems rather unproductive, You can find the performance in the centre, the field and the corners specified in Erwin Puts' lens reviews (Home), (http://www.imx.nl/photo/downloads/files/llcforweb.pdf) , so you can draw your conclusions about the M8 and full frame/film there.
