jfgilbert Posted February 20, 2007 Share #21 Â Posted February 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not only would I get Aperture as soon as it supports the M8, I would also get a second display (a big one) to take advantage of its multi-screen ability. I have only used the trial version, and then only with files converted in C1, but if the DNG handling is any good, I would take it over LR or any multi-program workflow in a heartbeat. ptomsu Posted February 20, 2007 Share #24  Posted February 20, 2007 my decision is taken, I have Aperture but needed to use Lightroom because of the lack of DNG support in Aperture.  Meanwhile I found Lightroom much more efficient to use than Aperture - so the decision was pretty simpl - LR is my future choice.  BTW - this is a great example how not to do business - Apple screwed this definitely up and will loose more customers as they progress in neglecting DNG!  Cheers  Peter
carstenw Posted February 20, 2007 Share #25 Â Posted February 20, 2007 The damage to Apple from not supporting various incompatible DNG formats is probably pretty limited. There are only a few, like the M8, DMR, some medium-format backs, and perhaps another couple of cameras. I think the K10D might have the option, but I might be remembering the camera wrong. Â I still think Apple should support it though. I am much more of an Apple fan than an Adobe fan, to be honest, but Lightroom is just ahead, so far, IMO. peterv Posted February 20, 2007 Share #26 Â Posted February 20, 2007 I would... Â Made it clear to Apple a zillion times, via e-mail, this forum, the aperture forum, etc. We'll have to wait and see. I would have thought Apple would have supported Leica immediately. Â Maybe one day... Â In the meantime I shoot DNG + JPG and put the JPG's in the Aperture library for easy e-mail and reference. gnispen Posted February 20, 2007 Share #28 Â Posted February 20, 2007 I am using Aperture now for almost a year and I really like it. Not being able to shoot in DNG with my M8 I see as a big hurdle though.... Â I know I could take a longer route through different applications, but that takes a lot of the speed out of the process. Â I am tempted to try Litghtroom, but would rather have Apple support DNG....
wstotler Posted February 20, 2007 Share #29  Posted February 20, 2007 <snip> Leica M8 is not on the list in 10.4. It most likely will be in Leopard.Irakly  Do you have this information from somebody at Apple? Frankly, I'm not feeling good about waiting until Leopard for an update--wasn't that what Camera Raw Updates were for in OS X?
LichMD Posted February 20, 2007 Share #30 Â Posted February 20, 2007 In answer to an earlier posters question, Eoin is a forum member that found a hack that allows Aperture to work with M8 DNG files, after they have been converted using Adobe DNG converter. The hack itself is outlined here: http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/16559-how-use-aperture-m8-dng-files-3.html#post177725 Scroll down to Eoin's post. This hack works, and allows seamless use of Aperture. It's a great work around until Apple gets their S@#$ together and gives us native M8 DNG support. Â Â Cheers
jeffwros Posted February 20, 2007 Share #31 Â Posted February 20, 2007 I just contacted Apple using the feedback link listed earlier. I purchased Aperture when it first came out for my Canon CR2 files. Now that I've left Canon for Leica it is going completely unused. Â OTOH I actually prefer the images and, possibly, the workflow of C1 better. Still, I would like to have a choice in the matter. Â I'll look into the workaround soon. Thanks for sharing! ibogost Posted February 21, 2007 Share #34 Â Posted February 21, 2007 What's disappointing about the missing Aperture DNG support is that Aperture is supposed to be a professional workflow tool. So even if Apple isn't generally supporting DNG in the OS, and even if we M8 owners are a niche, the software itself is supposed to support a niche. Â So, that's what's most disappointing to me.
