M9 most desirable camera

I assume others have noticed that Mike Johnston at The Online Photographer has somewhat grudgingly declared the M9 to be one of the 5 most desirable cameras on the planet. It's not to his taste, but he can't find anyone who has one and doesn't love it. He claims that no one mentions the M8 era any more, but several commenters disagree.

Mike appreciates Leica. He suggested everyone buy a used film M with one lens and use it for a year for free. Free because one can sell the equipment in a year for what one spent. I think he would be happy with a digital M if it were not required to be so legacy based on appearance, ie removable base etc. He understands how many users get annoyed with any M changes, ala the failure of the M5 by being too big. I think he will like a used M 12.

It's interesting that Mike doesn't mention the M9 (and the S2 only in passing) in naming the most overpriced camera (the Diana, in his opinion) in a sister column.

Maybe he's basing it on the fact that the M9 can take proper pictures while the Diana can't? I mean, people pay a ridiculous amount of money for something that isn't supposed to work properly. Seems silly to me frankly.

Though I get if they got the same results from a dSLR they wouldn't like them...

He doesn't need to. His commenters can usually be counted upon to add inventive forms of Leica-bashing, never failing to mention the price tag. He seems to like to egg on the battle from the sidelines.
