Zeiss Biogon 35mm on the M9

I would like to ask DFV what about the vignetting of the 35/2? Is it taken care of by choosing an appropriate menu item or is it still visible?

I have the 35/2.8 C-Biogon myself and use it on the M9 and I am very satisfied with its performance, with two minor caveats: vignetting is strong (even when coded as an 35/2 pre-asph) and ...I miss an extra stop sometimes.

Other than that it is simply stellar. The resolution, especially is fantastic. It is equal to the Summilux 50 ASPH that I also have at all apertures. I have bought a Konica 35/2 UC-Hexanon thinking that is would allow me the extra stop (and it would be near identical to the 35/2 pre-asph), but the C-Biogon destroys it resolution-wise (center and corners included).

Cheers, Horea

Hi Horosu,

I have had no problems at all with vignetting on the Biogon f2.0. I set it as the CRON 35 pre-ASPH. and the result is perfect. I am surprised that you have vignetting on your C-Biogon.

What can I say, maybe you're unlucky? Sean Reid recently tested the ZM, and here's what he said about the 35/2.8:

"The manual lens correction setting ("35 F/2 11310/11311") works beautifully for the 35/2.8 C-Biogon. Cyan drift is corrected, with a quite neutral result, and luminance vignetting is decreased without being over-corrected. All-in-all, the M9, this lens and this particular manual lens correction setting are an excellent combination."

He does say "without being over-corrected" so perhaps if you want totally neutral luminance stick to your UC hex, or use cornerfix.

For those without a ReidReviews subscription, I strongly recommend it for an unbiased and thorough at rangefinder equipment.

I am a subscriber at Sean Reid's site and have read his review yesterday. I was surprised at the precise vignetting measurements, which showed, good correction using the Summicron 35/2 pre-asph selection.

I was comparing the C-Biogon to the Summilux ASPH (50/1.4) and the UC-Hexanon.

I was also surprised at the notion of "overcorrection" and that could explain my perceived differences.
