Any tips on cleaning Digilux 2 / LC1 shutter button, buttons, etc?

I have an LC1 whose shutter button keeps getting stuck - almost as if there's dirt or build-up in there somewhere. I've also noticed a lag on the buttons on the back.

 

From the teardowns I've seen on the Digilux 2 from Mark Norton and elsewhere, these are integrated and connected parts that can't easily be separated.

 

Does anyone have any hints on cleaning the camera down and getting operation back to normal?

I suggest 99% isopropyl alcohol, applied with cotton swab...

I had the same issue with an used D/2, a stuck shutter button, and used CRC's electrical contact cleaner, that dries quickly and leaves no trace.

Just beware not to use anything cheap and that has lubricants in it.

 

Don't forget to first take out the battery, then use the little straw that usually comes with the can and spray a little along the button rim while depressing it. Click on the button a few times, and let it dry before spraying again if the problem is not solved.

 

Wait a little while before reinserting the battery, just to be on the safe side that it dried out completely.

The problem with just spraying with cleaner is that grease and dirt may get dislodged and made mobile but will remain once the solvent evaporates. You might find a folded post-it note made damp with solvent can be inserted into the gap between the shutter speed dial and the surround and worked round it to rake out any dirt.

 

The Digilux 2 is much easier to dismantle than an M8/9 but the buttons are released from underneath the top plate. If you do go there, clean the components with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol or electronic cleaner to remove grease and dirt which has got in there. The lens/sensor does not need to be disturbed to remove the top plate, from memory.

I've also noticed that the UV coating on the viewfinder is almost completely scratched off.

Is this an issue anyone else has had?

 

Does Panasonic still sell replacement parts directly (I can't find the link anymore)?
