Do YOU Have a Case On Your M8/M8.2?

No case, just some black stair-grip tape, $2 from any hardware store, so it's easy to grip. After a while it gives the M8 a worn look that won't get a second look from ne'er-do-wells and peels off easily if I want to remove it.

Now I need your opinion for color of the case.

I'll be getting the black m8.2. Should I get a black case to keep it stealth and all or should I get the natural aged brown which makes it look very nice and oldish?

What would you choose?

I don't believe in surveys for personal decisions like this...better to decide for yourself. But, it seems your mind was made up to get one. On to the color. Bet you have a preference already.

Everyone will have their own preferance. Me; I like it naked with a Gordy's strap - it's the way it was meant to be.

+1, I have Luigi case, and Leica grip, but now its just sitting. I prefer just the thumbs up and Gordy's strap, the way it's meant to be for me.

Jeff your definitely right but After a couple of the posts said it was peersonal preference I decided they were right. I think actually I won't get a case because it adds bulk and I want some brassing

Kyle, do wait until you can try the camera for yourself. As you have seen from these and other posts, choice of cases and grips is a very personal matter. When I added an M8 to my M3 and M6 cameras, I quickly found that I needed a Leica grip for its physical security. I remain convinced of that need.

 

Taking the longer view, most owners possess more than one lens which necessitates some form of combination bag. Once you embrace that solution a dedicated M-body case becomes redundant. So consider your wider needs before buying an erc or half-case.

No case, I like, how the camera fits my hand without one.

I like the M8.2 also to wear properly (which happens pretty quickly to my surprise).

The only issue I'm going to have now is that I'm getting a Thumbs-Up and it won't fit with this version of the case... I'm going to see if I can find a local leather worker to cut my case to fit the Thumbs-Up. Anyone else had to do this?

 

FYI: I use a Thumbs Up with mine and I don't have a cutout in the Luigi case. Just slide it on and off when putting on/removing the case. Doesn't go all the way into the shoe (slight gap) but it's snug and I've never had it work loose or feel loose.

 

Regarding the original poster's question--a half case is great protection for the lower half of the camera, especially the screen and buttons. Gives a bit of grip. A nice leather case has a classic, organic touch, but, yes, that's a matter of opinion. Good luck!

Yep! I got the Thumbs Up today and it works just fine with the case as-is. LOVE it. The combo (case + Thumbs Up) is a huge improvement in handling and looks good too. The soft release is a neat touch (mine is from Match Technical).
