Which flash? A Leica flash?

Don't underrate the SF24D. I do often use it for bounce, in normal size rooms with useable reflecting surfaces, such as a white ceiling. The power is quite sufficient, especially at ISO500 or thereabouts, and TTL flash works well and relieves you of much uncertainty. Direct off camera flash can also be effective at short ranges.

I use the same technique as Sean Reid: You couple the flash to the camera with either a Nikon SC19 'system' cable, or the universal cable SC01 made by Nissin. To the piece that goes on the flash, I add a wriststrap, of the kind that is intended for a tripod bushing (which both cables have) so that I can momentarily let go of the flash in order to change lens settings. Full function is maintained.

The SF24D is also good for on camera fill flash, cranked down two f-stops or thereabouts.

I use this one. It can be easily shortened so as to keep it from slipping off the wrist.

Nice one. I use a length of climber's cord wrapped around the flash body itself and tied in neat knots to make a loop for my wrist. I looked for a strap like that to start but figured out I didn't want to put any stress on the plastic sync cord's screw mount area. Just saying that a good piece of string works well. But I'd use that strap if I were still looking to buy one--thanks. Will

Could you elaborate, Jaap on this comment?

With either the SCA 3502 or 3501 (I didn't think the latter would do it, but it does) on a Metz flash (I've tested the Metz 54 MZ3i and 40 MZ3i) , the M9 will transmit the ISO (including auto ISO) and focal length of the lens (if coded or a code is set manually) to the flash in Manual and Auto mode ( on the flash). The flash will then set the power zoom head to match the focal length of the lens on the camera. So with the right flash and the right SCA adaptor, in Auto mode, the only setting you need to change on the flash is the aperture for exposure calculation.
