My 50mm lens seems out of focus?

I got the first lot of transparencies from my M5 and have mixed results. It appears the 50mm collapsable Summicron is out of focus and wondered if this is a common problem or is it just me getting used to it? :o

On the other hand the 90 Tele Elmarit shots are great yet this lens has quite a bit of internal dust or something on the elements, weird.

Anyway, the 50mm is the one I need to sort out, any advice appreciated.

It is not a problem unless you forget to extend it fully and lock it in place. Pull it out and rotate clockwise.

Take it off and on a few times and check an object actoss the room for focus and remember the distance. Repeat 4 times. Use something easy like a door frame and keep the camera on a tripod if you have one.

One time I put a 90 2.8 on my m6 and infinity came up 20 feet. Clearly something was wrong, so I remounted it it have it work properly. Never happened again so I am at a loss to explain.

Just make sure there is no debris on the lens focus cam and the round RF wheel that contacts it.

thanks fellas, I'll take those hints into account. The lens is extended so I'm discounting that problem, in fact you can see it on my avatar.

Because it was my first use of the lens I'm taking it out again today to run some more film through the camera and see if the results are better.

Sounds like the 50 mm needs to see a camera repair shop. Since the 90 mm might need some cleaning I'd say bring them both to a trusted camera technician. Some other lenses occasionally have a focus problem at infinity and usually it can be fixed.

Sandro, you're right so I'm off to see someone with both lenses on Tuesday. The 90mm should just be a clean and the 50mm needs to be re-calibrated by the sound of it, hopefully it is a standard job.
