colin_d Posted April 28, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 28, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I took my newly acquired M5 out on the weekend and ran a roll of Velvia 100 through it. Keep in mind this is my first experience with a Leica, here are my impressions. I thought the rangefinder focussing would take some getting used to, but had it sorted out pretty quickly and only have a couple of out of focus shots. Has a much more personal feel to it than the SLR, probably as a result of no mirror, quieter shutter, wider view of the scene, less cumbersome to manipulate settings and much much smaller lenses. The framelines add another dimension to how you consider your shot composition. Closest focussing distances a little longer than I expected. The exposure meter is unbelievably simple to use and understand. Nice bright viewing images. In the hand it feels comfortable because of the beautiful balance it has. Winding the film forward has a shorter action. Everything is easy to access with the body to the eye. The body is uncluttered by excessive knobs, levers, tabs and prisms. As a very recent Leica convert, now I understand why you people are so passionate about them. And as an M5 owner I couldn’t be happier, it has lifted the experience to another level. I'm now going to dabble in the B&W arena as well just to make it even more rewarding. Thanks to forum members for making me welcome. I love my M5. colin_d Posted May 1, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted May 1, 2010 Here's a sample of some of my very first M5 and Leica images, excuse the odd stray hair being scanned: The first and last were taken with the 90mm Tele Elmarit and the middle shot with the 90mm Elmar using Velvia 100. I can see a difference in the feel of the shots to my Nikon lenses, much more seductive.
hendriphile Posted May 13, 2010 Share #4 Posted May 13, 2010 Lovely shots. May I venture to ask if you have other focal length lenses besides the two 90's?
colin_d Posted May 17, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted May 17, 2010 I also have a 50 Summicron, 135 Hektor and 35 Summilux, which I have just started using. Also using b&w film at the moment.
