Hello all,

I have really enjoyed by first month with the X1. I find it to be a very capable camera. AF is adequate, IQ is high, and the shutter is so unobtrusive! The sensor/lens combo here packs quite a punch. Please take a look, and I'd love any feedback that you have:

I do a lot of post-processing through LR 2.0 and Nik Efex, and I find the files quite flexible to adjustment

Thanks Doug and PurdueAlum!

I do find the shooting experience of the X1, with VF attached, to be similar to that of some of the film point and shoots of days gone by, such as the Contax T2/3....AF is similar, maybe slightly slower on the X1...serves as a reminder how fast AF technology has evolved for us to knock the X1 for it's focussing speed.

Thanks again to all!

hmmm...maybe I just have a pokey Contax T2....

As for the viewfinder, I use primarily to compose in bright light, or when objects are further away....I don't find the viewfinder to be too accurate with close-up subjects, and prefer the LCD for this....

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I do find the X1 to be quite capable, despite some AF limitations (I have learned to adjust).

Plus, I am having a lot of fun using it!

Hi ashwinrao,

Hi Ashwin, I have a question for you regarding the image stabilization function on the X1. What do you think of it? Have you used it for photos you posted on your flicker gallery? I am currently waiting for my own X1 to arrive sometime at the end of this month. I have been reading the specs on the X1 and heard that the stabilization function doesnt work with raw photo files. How does the camera take pics with that function turned off? And do you just hold your camera just a bit more carefully then?

Thanks for your time,

Craig

I have not used the Image stabilization function. I shoot and process entirely in RAW, so the IS feature wouldn't work for that. Generally, I just set an ISO that I feel comfortable with shooting hand held. The camera often will default to whatever ISO can be set to acheive 1/30 shutter speed. Often, I find a bit of shake blurs images, so I'll set the ISO (typically 200-400 during during the day, 800 during the night) to achieve the shutter speeds I need to crisply freeze action. That's my work-around for image stabilization!
