jamriman Posted April 24, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 24, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Any gray owners have an opinion? I have a black one and think its more durable than the M8.2. Thanks
Advertisement Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Hi jamriman, Take a look here Gray paint durable as black?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Shade Posted April 25, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 25, 2010 I think it should be about the same.
Fotomiguel Posted April 25, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 25, 2010 and what about the white pain? Some letters of the back of my camera were already black after two month of using. My father says that my hands sweat off some kind of acid. Is there a method of repainting the white letters without doing a mess?
ho_co Posted April 25, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 25, 2010 Miguel-- 1) Hand acid. I've got the same problem. 2) White paint. Check with an art-supply store. There's a kind of white crayon that you can rub over the engraved places. Doing so fills them with white, but also leaves white marks around the depressions. Then simply take a cloth and wipe across the lettering. That removes the excess surrounding marks, but leaves the filled-in parts. 3) Someone probably has a better handle on what to ask for at the art-supply store than I, and will pop up with a correction. yanidel Posted April 25, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 25, 2010 Mine is gray and the real issue is not so much the paint but the new left cornered design. Both corners on mine already show brass (6 months after). My M8 shows none after 4 years. Nevertheless, I really don't care about the brass, no big deal to me. gravastar Posted April 25, 2010 Share #6 Posted April 25, 2010 .................. 3) Someone probably has a better handle on what to ask for at the art-supply store than I, and will pop up with a correction. Lacquer-Stik Paintstick, White. Catalog # L51120 from Micro-Tools. You can carefully wipe off any excess with a cloth slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol or they recommend mineral spirit (I think). Bob.
brill64 Posted April 25, 2010 Share #7 Posted April 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) i have a black m9 and the paint is certainly more hairline scratch resistant than the m8/m8.2 so maybe the grey paint is of a similar formula? jamriman Posted April 25, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted April 25, 2010 I read on a previous post that they reformulated the paint to make it stronger than the first few batches. Can anyone confirm?
Chroma project Posted April 26, 2010 Share #9 Posted April 26, 2010 If Leica had a chrome M9 it will definitely be the camera, but this plastically-alike "gray" paint is awful.
