I have mainly shot a Nikon D3 + 300 2.8 VR at last weekends F1 GP, but had a Leica M with me at all times with a shorter lens.

For the ones, who are curious, I have uploaded some shots from the weekend on my website in the galleries here.

More, more, more on my site ;-)

What really strikes me, is how detailed the crops from the M8.2 are.

Thanks for looking!

Dirk -

A terrific series, individually and as a set.

BTW: I gave up on touring your site -- Loading is painfully slow.

Thanks for the compliment Stu!

Yes, the site needs a speed improvement, as most content is rather big JPGs at around 300 − 400 kb each.

I am facing a major site overhaul soon ;-)

This is a very nice series. I like the simple shapes of the track showing off a single race. car. You mentioned the cropping; not sure how much you threw away, but yes, these look great. That lens is becoming one of my favorites.

Thanks Larry!

The cropping due to the small reach, the 90mm gives, is the limiter for print size here (I used a 300mm + x1.7 TC, to get a good framing with one car from this position).

Otherwise the M8.2 gives amazing, fine detail, making these crops even possible to print!

The vertical frame with a BMW Sauber followed by Michael Schumacher in the Mercedes is about 1/3 of the whole frame and has been printed at A3.

You already get some issues at this enlargement, but is still has plenty of detail at viewing distance (the people in the background can be identified, as can be seen the far away mesh from the farthest fence )!

This detail is simply impossible to resolve with the 12MP Nikon D3 as the filtered sensor really destroys such details.

I didn't use the lens much until now, only after I found out, how great it works on the M8.2 for more reach, I really love it. I am eager, to try out a Telyt now on the M8.2 ;-)
