....on leica rumors. looks great but seems not to create much excitement here. who is going to sell the old one and get the new one? i am not (most likely not...if i can resist) since my titanium one has no focus shift that i can detect. but it has an extremely ugly plastic lens hood....---)))

I've no doubt that the new 35 Summilux will be the definitive lens for the focal length in the same way that the 50 Summilux is for 50mm. That said, the floating element is likely to make the focussing stiffer, the lens will cost twice what my current Summilux is worth and it won't make me (or anyone else) a better photographer. I won't be buying.

I can't say the aesthetics of the lens hood is much of a consideration.

Discussed at length in the customer forum - "optimized for digital" just means they've added a floating element to correct some flaws in the original design (focus shift for some people, weaker close-up performance) that were within the tolerances of what film could record, but became more evident when used on a digital sensor's unforgivingly flat image surface.

In other words, a technically "better" lens when used on either film or digital, although on film the improvement may not be as noticeable.

For those who already own 35 Lux ASPH, there maybe little reason to buy a new one. Especially if they don't encounter focusing issue. My lens is perfect on my M9.

However, for those who doesn't have one, the new 35 Lux ASPH (if the rumor has truth in it) will be very compelling after having seen the 21 Lux, 24 Lux, and 50 Lux.
