Advertisement Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Hi Ecar, Take a look here Amateurs and just part-time paid shooters, how often do you use your M9?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
chris_tribble Posted April 21, 2010 Share #22 Posted April 21, 2010 At least 1 M9 + 35 cron - usually dumped in a shoulder bag or, in winter, in a big coat pocket. Who needs a point and shoot?
jonoslack Posted April 21, 2010 Share #23 Posted April 21, 2010 Glad to hear so many keeping their M9 close by. I am beginning to do the same, except that where I live is so darn familiar after 25 years that somehow I don't think it's quite worthy of many photos, unlike a recent trip to Kenya and another to Palm Beach area. Hmmm - but you know your local area . . . and probably have something to say about it, while Kenya, Palm Beach and the West Bank might appear more interesting it's the people who live there that really know it, IMHO there is nothing like local knowledge to enhance your photographs. andreas_thomsen Posted April 21, 2010 Share #24 Posted April 21, 2010 the m9 is part of my body
Benoit Petot Posted April 21, 2010 Share #25 Posted April 21, 2010 I got mine 4 months ago and I "wear" it on an average of 4 days a week. I'm a "pure" amateur. During the working day, the only lens I use is a 35/Lux pre-asph. My average prod is 5/10 pictures taken on week days & 20 on week-end. I postprod (LR) on week-ends and keep about 20% of my negatives, always on prints (no web). BTW, I've done the same for 17years with my M6. Having your M at hand is a real pleasure. You look a the word another way, and now in the Paris' spring, it's wonderful.

andalus Posted April 21, 2010 Author Share #27 Posted April 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes Jono, but I'm unenthused by my current town in N Carolina. I suppose it's a taste for shooting in places I don't know so well, to capture the landscape and people. This is why my shots consist solely of family here in mid NC. It's the travel with camera that really gets my heart and love of my Leica camera racing...
John Thawley Posted April 21, 2010 Share #28 Posted April 21, 2010 A few months ago some hapless young woman was crossing from Jordan with her Mac Book at the Allenby Bridge and for absolutely no apparent reason an Israli took her computer outside, put it up against a wall and put a 9mm bullet through it. I've had a notion to do that to mine on occasion.
andalus Posted April 21, 2010 Author Share #29 Posted April 21, 2010 Haha. Shooting your computer? Might as well do it with your camera. Much less costly.
frc Posted April 21, 2010 Share #30 Posted April 21, 2010 In an other thread the MP is called the "Kalashnikov amongst cameras only with less sales".
andalus Posted April 21, 2010 Author Share #31 Posted April 21, 2010 Kalashnikovs are fine, and cheap, but I prefer my Sig Sauer 556. However, I'd give that up before I give up the M9. Hell, I might even will that the M9 be buried with me...
frc Posted April 21, 2010 Share #32 Posted April 21, 2010 How often do I have it with me?, always. Have it since the beginning of april, close to 600 shutter actuations now. Haven't really used it for reportage purpose yet and still getting used to it. Light reading, how much can I get out of the dark areas. How does it look on the display when the high light blow out. No instant Histogram in the display?! An other variable: ISO! More complex calculations to do. A first job done, wedding ( not what I usually do ) in the near future. ( Sorry, but can you kiss the bride again. I'm not certain about the exposure~#! ;-) I'll love the camera next month, but for now it's still nothing more than a digital M-attempt and nowhere near my trusted MP. Silly how a pragmatic person like me can get attached to ones old piece of gear. Or perhaps it's the the Fuji transparencies that are to blame. viooh Posted April 21, 2010 Share #35 Posted April 21, 2010 Doesn't anyone of you have to go to work and earn money on a daily basis? However much I'd like to use my M9 every day, sorry, no, I can't. Wouldn't make much sense shooting my office and my colleagues again and again. It's weekends, if I'm lucky.

Halleluia Now I don't have to feel like a loser anymore - I take pictures at work - odd ones Michael Sossenheimer | My PAD Project - but not with the Leica - too risky - no safe place to put the cam ... oh well, that's why I have a GF1 too. I am glad to see that I am not the only one with the need to earn a living to pay for the M9

thompsonkirk Posted April 21, 2010 Share #38 Posted April 21, 2010 I'm like Michael, above. Being retired, I guess I fit the category you're asking about. My constant-companion camera is an M8u. I use M9 on days of 'serious' shooting/capturing when my main purpose is to work with the camera – usually 1 or 2 days a week. People tend to mis-perceive M8 as an old film camera. It's silver, which doesn't look so professional. It has a dent in the top plate. I got it a black dot because the red one was too conspicuous. And my stepdaughter gave me some funny bandaids with words on them, so I use one of these to cover up 'M8.' I also bought it a used 28mm Zeiss, so I wouldn't be carrying & banging around a $3K Summicron everyplace I go. I feel comfortable with this camera even in rough &/or druggy neighborhoods. I use M9 for the 2 main photo projects I've been working on, because I want larger files. My prints are currently14x21", & M8 is OK for that; but I know my next printer will be 24" & I'll need M9 files for larger prints. Kirk
blatent liar Posted April 21, 2010 Share #39 Posted April 21, 2010 I glued the M9 to my hand, which made it tough to eat, drive, and wipe, but My wife took issue with other things. ...When removed, it left a nice brassy patina. She is happier now. Speaking of women -- Besides my Diana, the only truly bad camera is the one you don't have with you. My M9 is always on my shoulder, Thanks Luigi.
