Advertisement Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Hi Stephan_Chandler, Take a look here Any comments on using a Voigtlander Bessa body as a backup fir an M6?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
giordano Posted April 18, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 18, 2010 If you have two M bodies you don't have to change your thinking as you switch between them. The M rangefinder is more accurate and less likely to go out of kilter. On the other hand a Bessa has a built-in meter and changing films is a bit quicker. Some Bessas have 75mm framelines, which the M2, M3 and M4 don't; others have 21 and 25mm framelines, which the M6 doesn't. And the Leicas sound and feel nicer. troyfreund Posted April 19, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 19, 2010 The Leicas do feel and sound better, but the Bessa that I've experienced (the R3a my brother has) was pretty darn cool and a nice, affordable 2nd-camera. And, if has a higher sync speed with is nice.
bill Posted April 19, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 19, 2010 Don't. I had a Bessa for a short while. Did not get on with it, predominantly because of the handling differences. I had the same issues with an RD-1. Why make your life complex? Get a nice M2 and you will not regret it. Regards, Bill
peter_n Posted April 19, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 19, 2010 I used an R4A for a couple years with two M7s. Cannot speak highly enough of this camera and I thoroughly regret selling it. However I have a new opportunity - now that I'm using two MPs I'm going to get an R4M! Perfect for my 24mm and it has a sweet solitary frameline for my 28mm lens. The R4 is a unique rangefinder and I strongly recommend it if you use 21, 24, 28 or 35mm lenses regularly.
gyoung Posted April 21, 2010 Share #6 Posted April 21, 2010 or... perhaps and M3 or an M2?? I bought an R2 as 'back up' for my M3, nice camera but not built like or as nice to use as a Leica, and wont focus accuratley my 90/2.8 or 135/4, so I saved up my pennies bought an M6! I still have the R2, it makes a good knock about/take anywhere in case camera, and sometimes has an alternative film in it i.e Provia/Velvia combo to cope with different subjects/lighting.
