While I' was using a Sandisk Ultra SDHC 8GB in my M9, the camera suddenly became totally unusable, no response watsoever.

Good enough everything went back to normal just removing the battery and the card.

The card now can totally block also the M8 and is not accessible by any computer I've tryied.

In over ten years I've been using flash cards, I've never seen such a total failure.

Cheers,

Ario

Comiserations on that bad luck. Nobody enjoys such events. Remember it is a mechanical and electronic device and thereby not perfect. You got maybe the one in a million crook ones. Have faith and replace the disk and move on. May good luck be with you now.

Contact Sandisk through their website and take advantage of their lifetime warranty.

I did it, but I'm still curious to understand what happened.

I had few cases in the past of corrupted files and corrupted card but never to the point that the card became invisible to a PC.

I have just now experienced something similar. This was a SanDisk Ultra 2gb that would not appear on the desktop of my Mac. Neither would another card of the same type pop up. As an external hard disc shows up the way it should, I suspect that it is the card reader that has pooped. I'll get a new one on Monday.

This is not my case, I've used different card readers on different computers and diffrent OS and in no case the card shows up.

Ok gang,

Is everyone using an SDHC card reader. SD card readers will not read SDHC cards and the disk will not show up on the desktop. They all look the same BTW.

Al my card readers work perfectly with all my other SDHC cards, and previously also the now dead card was ok.

Cheers,

Ario

Cool. It took a little going back and forth for me, but they did replace the one and only sandisk card i ever had a problem with.

But this morning my wife said her camera was not recognizing her sandisk extreme III. So i put it in my M9 and same deal. Took it out and it was then that I realized the wee little plastic "lines" that are on top of and between the bronze contact tabs on the card that I assume act as guides when inserting into the camera or card reader were broken and at an angle covering some of the tabs. So i broke those two off completely, put back in her camera and it works perfectly. I guess those things are pretty fragile on the sd cards.

I experienced the same with a Scandisk Extreme III 8GB in February. Was taking some indoor pictures, then the camera suddenly said the card was unreadable. The computer would not recognize it either. Had to reformat the card to be able to used again.
