shaozhuohong Posted April 17, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 17, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi I think my M3 body needs an overhual (just some adjustments, no parts damaged). Who konws the ROUGH price for M3 body overhual in Solms? (eg. 150, 200, 250, 300 EUR) By the way, is there any reliable leica repair shops in UK? Thank you very much! andybarton Posted April 17, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 17, 2010 A Solms CLA is around £150 - £200 complete You can also try CRR in Luton, or Malcolm Taylor in the UK. Both available via Google.
Pangur Ban Posted April 19, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 19, 2010 I had my M3 done by Leica UK about three years ago and they did a tremendous job - it came back in wonderful condition. It cost about £250. I sent my M2 to Malcolm Taylor for its CLA and he also did a great job, for slightly more - this did surprise me a little as the M2 was in better initial condition than the M3 was. When you send it to either you can ask for a quote before committing to the cost.
earleygallery Posted April 19, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 19, 2010 When I asked Leica UK for a price for a cla on my M2 they quoted £450 minimum. It was around the time of the M8 launch so maybe they were too busy with warranty work and gave me a price to ensure I went elsewhere!
Guest BigSplash Posted April 19, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 19, 2010 Last week I phoned Milton Keynes and was quoted £250 to £400 for a M4 standard service and was told that there is only one technician that does this work and he is doing it part time as he is supporting the Leica UK sales effort also. I was also told that M4 service can take two months and very often they send the cameras to Solms. My M5 will most likely I was told cost £500 for a service and this definitely will go to Solms. Personally I wonder why they do not use Leica Mayfair and Milton Keynes and possibly NJ (USA) as a conduit to Solms, which should be organised as a fast turn around facilty with fast links to DHL or whoever. RG Lewis and Classic Camera apparently can get a standard service done for about £150 using and ex Leica employee who has the specialist tools and access to original spare parts from Leica. Malcolm Taylor is highly regarded in the forum, and when I phoned him for a M4 service he quoted £200 as a rough price. He told me he does a lot of work on the older M cameras and lenses and even helps Leica out when needed. I have no direct experience with Malcolm Taylor. Guest suilvenman Posted April 20, 2010 Share #6 Posted April 20, 2010 Peter Grisaffi at CRR Luton quotes £175 to service an M3. I have direct experience with his work and it is superb. If interested, I would telephone to explain your requirements. Ken.

MK do hardly any work themselves now, and most items for CLA end up back in Solms. Mayfair is a showroom, and not a Customer Service facility, so wouldn't necessarily have the staff and systems in place to handle a lot of items looking to go back to the factory for service. If Leica are going to keep both MK and Mayfair facilities, it makes a lot more sense to pay MK rent for CS than it does Mayfair ones.
