My first post here so sorry if I cover old ground!

Last Xmas the wife bought me a D-Lux 2 as I had wanted a smaller camera to tote around with me all the time. I have a Canon 20D but is too much to carry every day. I was very pleased with the Leica and it actually replaced my affection for the Canon G2 (I have two) and then I checked the Leica web site and found the Digilux 2 and fell in love big time!!

Since then I have been saving to buy the D2. Two weeks ago I had enough and started to find the best price on a new one. Can I find one - can I hell.

http://www.warehouseexpress.co.uk/ have had the D2 and the DL2 available since Xmas but when I looked they both had 'Discontinued' emblazened across the purchase option!

Have tried several shops in London but the same story. I have managed to track down a dealer who has a mint one coming in on Tuesday a part of an M7 deal.

If anyone knows of a supplier of new in the UK or EU then I would be grateful for any info.

I see there are two on Ebay(UK) at the moment but something about each of the descrptions has made steer clear. Probably just me bing paranoid!

Im in the USA and also tried to find a D2 in the past 3 months with no luck finding a new one. Funny thing is that I have had this camera on 3 occasions. Buy, sell, buy, sell and buy sell again. Wish I would of just kept the 1st one! Its a sweet camera and I wanted it again to be a digital companion for my M7. Guess Ill go with the D-LUX 2 instead. UNLESS anyone knows where Ican find a new D2 in the USA??

Hi Andy

Panasonic USA still has the sister camera to the D2 available the Lumix DMC-LC1 online. That is an extreme price.

Panasonic UK does not seem to have it listed. Not sure if they will ship to the UK. This late stage of the game you might be better off waiting a few months to see if Panasonic or Leica offers something that might replace the D2/LC1 other than the new L1 which isn't what you are looking for.

Good Luck

Andy,

I'm using the Digi2 since April 06. In Germany I had to drive many miles to get one, because it's discontinued. After a short time with a Nikon D70, the D2 brought me to the Leica track.

The camera is not so fast, not so slim, looks a bit like old school, but the pics are fantastic! The color of skin, the sharpness of the Summicron and the 'analog-handling' with the different rings at the lens, as they say in England: it's like a breeze... ;-)

Now I have the leica virus in my blood and I want to use a M6/7, at first analog to train myself for the finder and when it works fine for me the M8 would be the expensive end of the road.

If you are interested, drop me a line by Private Nachrichten (private messages)

Regards

Bernd

I only bought mine a month ago and I have already been offered a good profit on it - but I'm not selling. I am delighted with its performance.

Wey cameras in Weybridge were advertising a s/h one recently. Also try looking for a Panasonic LC1. I would be working my way through the list of Leica dealers to see what is around.

But the other option is to wait a little longer and see what comes out of Photokina. The new 4/3 is due out and there are rumours of a D3......Or bite the bullet now and order your M8, you know you're going to buy one in the end :)

I have had mine for 6 months now and loved the results. You can see some of my D2 pictures of the Venice Carnival or Skijöring.

I have recently bought a Panaleica c-lux and am using that one more and more when I do not want to carry the weight and bulk of the DMR equipment. I have also pre-ordered the M8 and I guess all those cameras are a bit too much. So if anyone is interested in my D2, write me a private message.

Best

Peter

I saw one in late April in Las Vegas, in the camera shop in the new shopping mall on the strip. new in box, 1900 US dollars. I found this odd because it is a "tourist" shop as opposed to a serious camera shop. I wish I had bought it but I already have one and I am saving for whatever the upgrade happens to be.

Well I am a very smug happy bunny. Got a D2 this morning at last. I am struggling to find out if the guy who traded it in had actually used it! No marks, no strap rubbing, no dust in the corners. Software envelopes unopened, extra battery and two 1Gb SD cards still in their unopened packaging.

Now to get to grips with the controls and then give it a serious workout at Knebworth House this Sunday at the Pre-50's American Car Show.

hi andy,

congratulations. love mine. a word of advice after reading lots about people's experience: baby it. with plastic parts, etc, it will eventually fall apart with rough handling. i've decided to use mine strictly for theater and dance shoots and use the d-lux 2 on the street. i think it will last a long time if treated carefully.

good luck,

wayne

Andy,

I wish you well at Knebworth on Sunday. There will be admiring glances for the D2 as well as the cars!

My tip - get a good case to protect it. I use the half case from Luigi and it does an excellent job. Panasonic's ERC for their offering will do a job but it

does not look the part.
