LVSBB6 Posted April 14, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 14, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently upgraded my DMR from R8 to R9 body and was very happy with the change, upon putting the SF58 flash for testing I noticed the TTL mode no longer works and the shutter wouldn't fire up! I have always used TTL mode with my DMR/R8 combo and got great results, I couldn't figure out what's with the DMR/R9 combo, which doesn't allow me to use TTL mode. Can somebody shed some light? thanks!
Advertisement Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Hi LVSBB6, Take a look here Help! DMR/R9 & TTL flash? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
psquared Posted April 14, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 14, 2010 Hmm, I don't know how you got TTL flash to work with the R8/DMR combination. It's not supposed to work with DMR. You need to use the Automatic flash setting.
mgcd Posted April 14, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 14, 2010 I also use my R8/DMR and Metz 40MZ-2 on TTL mode with great results. That's one of the differences between the R8 and R9 when used with the DMR. It does not seem to work with the R9.
LVSBB6 Posted April 14, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted April 14, 2010 Good that I`m not the only one who notice this. I wonder why Leica did that, kinda stupid that R9 doesn`t allow TTL whereas R8 does. It`s ashame as I really enjoy the R9 viewfinder. Looks like I won`t be selling my R8 then, instead I shall look around for a used DMR as a backup for night shots. Jamie Roberts Posted April 15, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 15, 2010 Or you could just shoot that flash in auto (correct?) or manual and enjoy the R9 I do agree it's weird that it would work on the R8 and not the R9, though.
guidowi Posted April 17, 2010 Share #6 Posted April 17, 2010 A R8 TTL flash exposure could result well, over or under exposed depending on how the light is reflected by the sensor glass which is very different than a film surface. I sometime obtained good results but also very bad exposure in a random way. For this reason the TTL flash is disabled when the DMR is mounted on the R9. Using the R9 with DMR I find the Metz Auto mode good enough.
leicaman94044 Posted April 25, 2010 Share #7 Posted April 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have two R8's and two Metz 54-Mz3's and neither of the R8's nor the 54-MZ3's work on TTL. There must be something different about the 40-MZ2 as the 54MZ3's and 4's don't work on TTL with the DMR.
