He had taken the DB III. Either of the cars would have suited his cover.... but the DB III had the advantage of an inconspicuous colour - battleship grey - and cetrain extras which might or might not come in handy." (Goldfinder, Ian Fleming, 1959). OK, it is a DB6 but who cares? M8 50/2.

stuny Posted April 12, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 12, 2010 Big - Close enough in looks. Beautiful shot for subject, vantage point, detail, contrast and tonal quality. A very handsome restoration, but not the most fun car to drive.
elansprint72 Posted April 12, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 12, 2010 That's the way to do it! Seriously, (here speaks a man who gets paid to do this stuff) you have really given that car the treatment it deserves. The parking angle makes the shot. Tell the owner to bin the black windscreen wipers and pay 30 quid for some chrome ones, though.

biglouis Posted April 13, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted April 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for the comments. A lucky find. Below, I posted some photos of a pillar box red Sunbeam Alpine I saw a few days back. I stated in the post that it was one of two of my favourite cars (the other being the E-type). I completely forgot about the DB6 until I saw this one yesterday. Definitely my favourite car of all time. I've seen the odd DB6 around London before but never one as immaculate as this. Almost pristine! The funny thing was all the blokes drooling over this car while their wives and girlfriends stood around on the pavement bemused at their behaviour. DES Posted April 22, 2010 Share #10 Posted April 22, 2010 Ohhhh! That really IS beautiful......I agree with you. It is the DB5/6 and the E-Type that I covet. I am glad I did'nt see this as I would made a fool of myself if I saw the owner. I would be between just wanting to talk to him for hours to find out all about him and the car, and plain old Jealousy, such a bad trait in a man eh! Never mind the shot is superb, well done. shootinglulu Posted April 22, 2010 Share #11 Posted April 22, 2010 I think this is SUCH a perfect car. It would suit me so much!! An annoying story... My grandmother used to meet David Brown dog walking sometimes and they would chat. One evening he asked her out for a meal but she said she didn't have time!! elansprint72 Posted April 22, 2010 Share #12 Posted April 22, 2010 The E-type was, and still is, a piece of crap (as a car to drive). Appearances can be deceptive. I've been unfortunate enough to own two- the first was a very early flat-floor Series 1, second was a very late V12. Both handled like a pig on skates; superb in a straight line but..... My total ownership time for both cannot have been more than about 5 weeks; deals were done, money changed hands, I walked away with pockets bulging both times. Now; has anyone got any Lotus photos? I've been very remiss in this dept. They have always been treated as a reliable member of the family and thus, photographically speaking, have been pretty much ignored. Must try harder, as the man said.
leicanut2 Posted April 29, 2010 Share #13 Posted April 29, 2010 Bond car was a DB5 I would take any one. Ha Paul McCartney of the Beatles purchased a DB5 after he visited the movie set of a Bond movie at Pinewood Studios The Aston Martin DB5 appeared in Goldfinger and Thunderball also in a newer bond movie but I forget the movies name. David Brown owner of Aston Martin hence DB made 10 Bond cars a week total about 1,000 Bond cars Only FOUR of the 007 DB5 still exist. Now I think there is only three because the one I saw that was used in the original Bond movies was STOLEN it was insured for 1 mill. if I remember right it has NEVER bin found. Imfo. on the history of the stolen original Bond movie car you can find in the internet Facts DB5 0-60 8.1 seconds top speed 140 mph Cheers Jan

leicanut2 Posted April 30, 2010 Share #15 Posted April 30, 2010 Very true but this was it also was on the TV news at the time of the theft, the man lost one other rare car then too. That is what made me do some research on the Bond car. The original Bond DB5 was here in Ohio for a opening of a store I got to watched as he did a demo the spike wheels and the bullet screen and a few other things very very cool car to see in person.
