Advertisement Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Hi digitalfx, Take a look here Summilux M and now Summilux C. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ho_co Posted April 9, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 9, 2010 Not only that, but they cover only a small frame and are designed with the expectation that you'll have a focus-puller. (Note that Steve Lap already mentioned them at http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/121788-leica-cine-lenses.html.) I'm a little sorry that they use the brand "Leica." Rather liked knowing the lenses branded "Elcan" were products of E. Leitz Canada in the old days. Still, "Leica" is more likely to be recognized, and the red dot looks good. Have you heard, does Luigi make a case for the set?
georg Posted April 9, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 9, 2010 Elcan (which is now owned by Raytheon) still designs/manufactures the glass elements/coatings in Canada for the Panavision Primos (but they make their own barrels/mechanics) which were started back in the late 80s when it was still a subsidiary of Leica/Leitz. There are only a few top-class cine-lenses: Panavision Primos, Zeiss Ultra/Master Primes, Cooke S4/S5 and now Leica - since there are designed and manufactured by Leica Camera (and Weller for mechanics?) in Solms/Wetzlar, Elcan wouldn't like it to see it's brand name on a competitors product in this tiny market... What's unique about these new lenses is their size/weight (titanium housings/mounts!) - Master Primes/Cooke S5 are much heavier and bigger with almost the same specifications - the optical performance is hard to improve (at least Master Primes) anyway. A S35-frame is max. 18x24mm - so the image circle isn't sufficient for us anyway, what about a µ4/3-adapter!?... ;-)
ho_co Posted April 9, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 9, 2010 ... what about a µ4/3-adapter!?... ;-) Hot dawg, Georg, now you're talking! Thanks for the update on Elcan/Raytheon etc. I knew some of the folks who worked for Leitz Midland and I'm glad to know their pride lives on!
