M9 and use of UV filters on lens

Friend this is my first time posting so be understanding if I do something wrong.

There is a Leica information sheet that states, Do Not use filters on lenses used on M9. This implyed non use of protective filters. The way this was written did not make sense to me.

So I contacted Leica USA and they stated the comments were only for use of IR filters. Do not use them on M9. They said UV filters or protective filters are ok to use and Leica suggests that they be used on Leica lens if used on M9.

I hope this clears up any misunderstanding. Personally I have used UV protective filters on all my glass weather it be Leica or Nikon, etc. I have not seen any difference in images quality using or not using filters.

So my personal advise as a professional photographer for 42 years. Please protect your glass. Best inexpensive investment you can do for your expensive investment.

Welcome to the forum Personally, if you want to use filters, I would recommend the protective series of eithe B&W or Heliopan. The glass is thinner, so it creates less undesirable effects, and it is more shatterproof, so it might prevent what happened to me: A UV filter breaking and a shard scratching the lens.
