We went on a snipe hunt and actually saw a snipe

As a child I spent several summers in Hew Hampshire at a summer camp. Each year they'd organize a nighttime snipe hunt, which ranked along side Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy for post early childhood believability. Then while trekking on Sea Lion Island in the Falklands we came across a snipe. I prefer the first shot. DMR/R8/70-200.

Stuart,

I like the first one. Great colors, composition and sharpness.

I'll take your word about the Snipe, I never bit on the snipe hunt theory, It was more fun terrorizing the girls that were looking for them. (oh-- that was many decades ago).

Ha ha!!

Despite this interesting camouflage (within red fescue?), an identity problem remains in that part of the world. Thus did the bird properly identify itself?

And, if so, was it under the name of snipe, or was it under the name of becasina comun?

In other words, were you able to determine the true allegiance of the Falklands/Malvinas fauna, and thus solve the conflict once and for all?
