bill Posted April 11, 2010 Share #21 Posted April 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Interesting comments about the E-1 - it was my second "serious" digital camera after the LC-1. I have been through two, and stay with Olympus for DSLRs to this day. There are certain things that they do (including take Leica R glass) that I love. Advertisement Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Hi bill, Take a look here Looking for Jono Slack!!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lars_bergquist Posted April 11, 2010 Share #22 Posted April 11, 2010 What? Don´t say it was your lens I bought at the LP auction 2 weeks ago.... There was a Summicron and a Summarit, both like new. I got the Summicron, and I´m very happy with it; together with the new Summicron 35, it´s my two-lens setup.) Ha! You missed it! It was the Summarit! elgenper Posted April 11, 2010 Share #23 Posted April 11, 2010 Ha! You missed it! It was the Summarit! ... Well, I didn´t exactly miss it... I took the rather unique opportunity to compare these 2 alternatives before the auction, and decided the shorter focussing limit and the convenient lens shade (I wouldn´t be found dead without one...) were worth the modest increase in bulk. As for price, even my wife agrees that Leica gear is an investment, not a waste... But I´m sure either lens would have satisfied me IQ-wise. Anyhow, the "bokeh" (I hesitate to use this abused word, but we both know what I mean...) of that ´cron is lovely!

Funny isn't it. Apart from the WATE (where it's kind of integral) and the 50 and 75 'cron (and other lenses where it's built in) I never use lens shades . .. taking it off the 28 'cron turns it from a monster to a svelte beauty . . and suddenly you can see through the viewfinder as well. If I'm shooting near to the sun I shelter the end of the lens with my hand.
elgenper Posted April 11, 2010 Share #25 Posted April 11, 2010 ... never use lens shades . ..... Well, admittedly new lens designs and coatings have made shades less mandatory to control glare than they were when I started. And finder blockage IS an issue. But it´s the physical protection aspect that´s most important. I like carrying my camera ready to shoot while I go around, in dense forest, among playful dogs and kids, in the city while being pushed around in a crowd & c. No filter will ever be as effective in protecting the front lens as will a decent shade in such situations.
