alun Posted April 6, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 6, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Apologies if there are threads already answering this question buried elsewhere here: Am I right in thinking that the classic M6 changed at some point from two to three metering diodes (i.e. like the TTL, M7, MP)? If so, when -- is there a way (without handling) that earlier two diode variants can be distinguished from later three diode variants (i.e under-centre dot-over). Many thanks. menos I M6 Posted April 7, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 7, 2010 My 1929*** M6 classic (I believe 1996) has the 2 "glowing" diode metering. I wish, my M7 and M8.2 had the same - is is much easier after some experience, to meter more intuitively with this simpler "analogue" meter.
jpattison Posted April 7, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 7, 2010 When the M6 TTL was made, the meter was improved (I think extended sensitivity at the low end) and a centre dot diode was added. So there should be no M6 classic with this system. John
alun Posted April 7, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted April 7, 2010 John -- That's helpful, thanks. I wasn't sure whether I was confusing two different things: the change to the metering design with the introduction of the M6TTL; and what I thought to be the case, a change to the classic M6 metering part-way through its life. Your reply indicates I was mistaken and that *all* M6 bodies prior to the TTL variant have only the old-style two delta diodes indicating exposure balance... Thanks again. Mine @ 2425xxx circa '98 also has |> <| but a later or repaired M6 classics may have |> o <|, an M3 is even nicer... Noel
