So, what's your lens changing camera doing these days?

I was afraid this would happen but my M8 is getting dusty since the X1 arrived.

I was never hesitate on buying the X1 because of a fixed lens, it was actually a selling point. The last thing I wanted was another set of lenses to cart around. I may not take it out all the time but there are few reasons not to always have the X1 with me. Small but feels like a camera in my hands, not a typical point & shoot. Small but picture quality rivals some DSLR's. Yes, it has a camera personality, i.e. not a flawless offering but quite satisfying just the same.

I don't plan on selling my M8 kit any time soon but the thought crossed my mind. Not because of a side-by-side comparison, mostly driven by how much the X1 is proving to fit my style. The novelty will likely wear off but still, the X1 is quite addictive.

My other camera is an E-P2. It usually accompanies the X1 in the same bag, because it's a fairly compact body. However, at the moment at least 95% of my images are from the X1 so I may drop the Oly altogether and lighten the bag.

They're not doing much!

I have a Sony Alpha 350 that is the only camera suitable for airshows and the like..so I'm keeping that dry.

In the Micro 4/3 department I have a G1 that lies around doing nothing and a GF-1 that still gets used but is hopeless for action shots. It happens to be a great camera and with the 20mm prime so similar and yet so different from the X1

Against the X1 I'm not in favour of primes only as a fixed lens.

We had those 40 years ago and I find them too rigid to use in the company of non-photographers.

It's all well and good moving around looking for the best viewpoint but when you've got a wife telling you to hurry up that's not always possible :)

Next time Leica give me a zoom or multi focal length.

Why not buy a cheap digital for the times when you're not doing serious photography? ... or let the wife bring the cheap one for those moments.

John, fit a suitable alternative lens on your M8 to give you the best of both worlds. I have bought a new bag just for that purpose. It holds the M8, X1 and two M-lenses; this allows me to use the X1 for 'walkabout' photography and the M8, with two alternate lenses, giving me considerable flexibility when on an extended tour or holiday. (Three focal lengths). So, the M8 continues to be the cornerstone of my serious photography, whereas the X1 takes pole position for so many 'everyday' outings and personal photography. In the background, but not forgotten, is my Digilux 2 which is generally confined to family pictures and close-up work with the Elpro-D fitted. The D2 is in use almost daily. Don't sell you M8; it remains a super camera!
