ppy508 Posted April 3, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I got a used 28mm Elmarit from Ebay. The focus ring is little bit loose and not smooth comparing with my other leica lenses, also, there is some noise if I move the focus ring fast. Is it necessary to repair? Thank you. farnz Posted April 3, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 3, 2010 Welcome to the forum, ppy508! I had one for about 2 years but its focus ring was smooth and not noisy although a tiny bit stiff since I had it from new. Does it focus accurately at all distances? If it does then its a matter of whether you want to put up with the looseness although I'd wonder if it had been dropped and something's binding inside the lens. Then again it might just be some grit that's crept under the focus ring. Personally I'd get it looked at by a qualified Leica technician because the 28 Elmarit asph was only released in October 2006 so it's not old enough to have naturally worn to the state you've described. Pete.
menos I M6 Posted April 4, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 4, 2010 This sounds exactly like the focus ring on my latest 90 Elmarit. If I pull the ring towards the camera slightly, while setting aperture, it moves as smooth with proper half clicks, as it should. If I do not induce any strength along the lens axis, while turning the aperture ring, it feels a bit tight to turn with the clicks not properly setting in. If I even induce strength away from the camera, while turning the aperture ring, it stiffens up considerably more and does make a loud sound instead of the nice clicking half clicks. I do not use the Elmarit often, so I live with it at the moment. At a later point, I might have a complete CLA + coding at Solms, if it begins to bother me. I just induce a slight force towards the camera for now and don't notice it anymore. Does your 28mm's aperture ring feel different, depending of force along the lens axis, as described above? Mmmh - completely overread the "aperture-… bit" of the thread Must have been some intentional suggestive over read, as I have used the 90mm yesterday and was reminded of the wiggly aperture ring.
