chuckw Posted April 3, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know that there are a lot of Mac users in this forum, and I have not seen this posted previously, so I thought that I would post: Mac OS X v10.6.3: Display profile reverts from custom to default after updating to Mac OS X v10.6.3 Basically, the recent 10.6.3 update will switch to your default display profile. So, if like me, you color calibrate your monitor the Apple update will default to a potentially uncalibrated previous profile. In my case the update also caused profile error messages in Capture One. Switching back to my calibrated profile not only corrected my monitor colors but also corrected the error message problem in C1.
Advertisement Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Hi chuckw, Take a look here Mac - Update 10.6.3 - Display Profiles. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LuxBob Posted April 3, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 3, 2010 Thanks, explains why my monitor was acting like a searchlight the past few days.
stunsworth Posted April 3, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 3, 2010 Thanks, I noticed the problem yesterday - my main iMac screen still looked reasonable, but the 19" screen that I used as a second monitor looked dreadful. The odd thing is that the profiles don't show up if you select the option to only show profiles associated with the monitor - which I guess is symptomatic of the underlying problem the update caused. wattsie Posted April 3, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 3, 2010 Thanks. That explains why my Colour Navigator agent for my Eizo Coloredge screen suddenly came up as telling me I was overdue to re-profile even though I had only done so several days ago. ptarmigan Posted April 6, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 6, 2010 Great spot Chuck. Mine was subtly out having reverted back to 'default'. All sorted now.
adan Posted April 6, 2010 Share #6 Posted April 6, 2010 I haven't even seen the 10.6.3 update yet - but forewarned is forearmed - Thanks! BTW, my experience is that profiles created by third party hardware (e.g. my Optix Pro) have NEVER (in 5 years) shown up in the short list of "Show only profiles for this monitor". Only the ones created with Apple's own calibrating utility get that privilege.

AbbeyPhoto Posted May 3, 2010 Share #10 Posted May 3, 2010 Surely you would re-profile your monitor after installing 10.6.3? It's a major update, so not re-profiling would be madness. Monitors should be profiled regularly (at least monthly), and after any update which affects the video / display system. If you are working for print principally then the settings should be: Temp 5500k Gamma 2.2 Lum 120 (100 for a darker room, 140 for a very bright room) For images which will principally be viewed onscreen the settings shoudl be: Temp 6500k Gamma 2.2 Lum 120 (100 for a darker room, 140 for a very bright room)
tdtaylor Posted May 7, 2010 Share #11 Posted May 7, 2010 Much appreciated- been looking at this for a week wondering why things were off. Allergies have really screwed with my eyes, so I thought it was me, although I was about ready to do a calibration to make sure.
