hoppyman Posted April 3, 2010 Share #61  Posted April 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I doubt that will happen Geoff. You've already been given your "free"/bundled software and no one has ever promised free upgrades too. I understand what you are expressing, Andy. We shall see what happens.  Right now what we know is:  The serial number provided by using your TAN from a qualifying Leica product will currently get you LR2.6 which is broken for the M9 and you then need to also download LR2.6.1 separately for free to replace it and that will accept your previous serial number.  If the serial number is version specific as suggested, then you are in the same position as people who have paid for LR2 separately. You will be able to pay for an upgrade licence for LR3 which is much cheaper than buying the full version licence.  There is still a distinction between people who have qualified for a serial number by buying a Leica product but not used it for whatever reason and people asking if they will get a better deal on LR3 after already accepting the offer and downloading LR2.6. That is where the differnce lies in what people consider an upgrade in this thread.  You guys may very well be right. I will take a modest bet with anyone that you are not ;-)  In the end, no biggie, I won't be setting fire to my M9 in protest if I am wrong ;-)

d2mini Posted April 3, 2010 Share #62 Â Posted April 3, 2010 I received my M9 just before christmas but have not yet registered it. Partly because I've been lazy and partly because I was waiting to see how this all turned out. I already own a copy of LR2. Â Anyone else like me who has held off on registering, not just keeping their TAN in a drawer?

You need a copy of your invoice when you send in your camera, as I had to last week. The invoice date actually starts the warranty period. BTW, B&H now has invoices online going back 3 full years. That makes it easy to proof that one has an active warranty if and when needed. Â K-H.

250swb Posted April 3, 2010 Share #65  Posted April 3, 2010 I doubt that will happen Geoff. You've already been given your "free"/bundled software and no one has ever promised free upgrades too.  Richard Swann at Leica UK did when I spoke with him. I explained the glitch early adopters would have with parity when LR3 was released, and how say Canon customers for a 5DMkii wouldn't expect a software upgrade that they can't access because they bought their cameras on a different date to everybody else, and he said LR2.6 would be upgradable at no charge. OK, its not a promise about free upgrades, its a statement, and statements can be un-made like everybody knows who watches politicians at work.  Steve
swamiji Posted April 5, 2010 Share #66  Posted April 5, 2010 Richard Swann at Leica UK did when I spoke with him, and he said LR2.6 would be upgradable at no charge.  Steve  LR2.6 was a free upgrade from 2.5. That's the way I read it anyway. However some software companies have a grace period, that say if you registered after a certain date the upgrade is free... We will have to wait and see. Â From 2.5 to 2.6 was like the update from ACR 5.5 to ACR 5.6 in Photoshop. Its just an update of the common RAW processing software as happens with Lightroom and Photoshop from time to time as new cameras are added. But LR3 will have some new features and importantly a new underlying software structure, as will the new CS5 when it is released this year. So its not a regular upgrade, its a new product. walglo Posted July 30, 2010 Share #69 Â Posted July 30, 2010 I heard from Leica's software assistance today. He said that since my Lightroom license was activated when I bought the camera in April, I could only get the version that was current at that time. The Leica owners' page has changed and offers a version of Lightroom consistent with this policy. Â gfm
