X1 Viewfinder - an idea?

I've stuck the tiny (but very good and bright) Ricoh GV-2 28mm finder on my X1 and think it may be a neat solution. I feared that the lens may intrude into the finder, but it doesn't. There are markings in the finder that make it easy to make allowances for the extra width.

Any thoughts?

I have also done the same, but just because I have not received the genuine Leica finder and Ricoh GV-2 were on hand ... The original finder will be delivered April 6 this year... I hope

it seems that using the 28 mm viewfinder defeats the purpose given 36 mm effective field of view. The CV 35 mm finder is only 1 mm off, plus it's well built and cheaper than the GC-2 finder. The only advantage that I see in the Ricoh finder is size...

What am I missing here? Why would you use a 28mm finder with a 36mm equiv lens?

(1) Because the dedicated Leica finder isn't available yet; and

(2) Because many rangefinder users appreciate having a viewfinder that shows more than the field of view of the lens, and

(3) Because the 28mm Ricoh finder is very small, unlike some of the 35mm finders I have seen whacked on top of the X1.

I'm a rangefinder user (M4, M8) and I wouldn't want this. I guess I want my framing device to be as accurate as possible. Sure, a wider field of view with frame lines for 36mm is ok, but 28mm brightlines?

I entirely agree with you, but there are secondary markings inside the 28mm frame on the little Ricoh finder that make it easy to judge where 35mm falls. So it's fine as a temporary expedient until I find something better.

My main point is that the X1 needs a similarly small finder if it's not going to spoil the compactness of the camera.

Paul basically means, that he wants a viewfinder with a bigger than 35mm view angle, framelines or markings st 35mm, so he can still "see and anticipate things just before shooting them"

What I don't get is why don't you guys just buy the VF from Leica that is incredibly bright and nice? Its accurate and is made for this camera. What difference does it makes if it's round or rectangular? It's just a VF!

Hello.

I am still waiting for the viewfinder. So at the moment i use a very old (around 60 years) very luminous Leica 50mm viewfinder. That helps me and its look fit well with the X1 design!
