That's quite an extraordinary statement, Jaap. You mean to say that in the M9 at high ISO there is little improvement in the post processing of a DNG file compared to their JPEG? I don't have the M9, so I can't contradict you, but I find that hard to believe, given the size of the DNG files created It is something I picked up in the M8-M9-5D test in an earlier LFI test, Doug, and I tested it out myself - it turns out that the M9 has a noise surpression algorithm in JPG that I cannot match in C1-5 pro, Maybe LR3 will improve on that again - I haven't tried it yet. stunsworth Posted March 30, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 30, 2010 Jaap, I don't have an M9 but the noise reduction in the latest LR beta is very good indeed. Reducing the noise to an acceptavle level and then playing with that and the 'detail' slider can give a good compromise between reducing noise and losing detail. I suspect Adobe will be selling at least one upgrade in the north-west of England.
jaapv Posted March 30, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted March 30, 2010 Sounds a lot like what I am doing with C1. I guess it will be CS5 for me.

As I asked in the other thread, Jaap, are you using compressed or uncompressed DNGs? Leica's doing something to the black point in compressed DNGs that might help noise levels. I find it very hard to believe that the in camera NR on the M9 is better than that in C1, though it may be more aggressive.
jaapv Posted March 30, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted March 30, 2010 Uncompressed. I find it hard to believe too, but I picked it up in LFI, and could duplicate it in real life.

Right--do the test with compressed DNGs in C1. What I think (but need to verify) is that if C1 respects the DNG structure, the black point of the image will change and the noise level should go down. If you get a second, it would make an interesting test!
