brian8121 Posted March 25, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey all, longtime lurker, but rookie poster. I've been looking into anti-theft camera straps/bags for my M9 and M7. I've come across some of the Pacsafe products. Does anyone here have experience with the Pacsafe camera straps? Do they work/fit with the M9? It looks like they work with most standard DSLRs but I'm not sure if the straps would fit in an M. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance. leicanut2 Posted March 25, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 25, 2010 Pacsafe bags are nice and can be locked to anything even a chair or table, would be hard grabbing the camera bag and running out of a dinner dragging a table. Get the larger pacsafe bag. Also slash proof even the straps. Jan
brucek Posted March 25, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 25, 2010 If you put split rings through the camera eyelets and then connect the straps to the rings they'll work fine. That's what I do with my M8.
bill Posted March 25, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 25, 2010 Hmm... busy street, scooter, snatch, quick getaway... I'd rather give up the camera and claim on insurance than get dragged along at 30mph, bleeding and screaming in agony... Regards, Bill

But OP, just be street smart.
brian8121 Posted March 25, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted March 25, 2010 Thanks all. That's very helpful. I'm generally very careful and aware, but you never can be too sure.

Seriously - if you're just normally circumspect, what's there to worry about?

stunsworth Posted March 26, 2010 Share #9 Posted March 26, 2010 I remember someone recommending threading steel wire through the strap so that it couldn't be cut by a thief. Mind you someone else, possibly the same person, recommended always carrying a tripod if you were in Europe as it could be used as a weapon against the hoards of street urchins, beggers and gypsies that would inevitably congregate around a photographer. andybarton Posted March 26, 2010 Share #10 Posted March 26, 2010 You need protection from the PCSOs, not urchins, in London...
Anguish Posted March 27, 2010 Share #11 Posted March 27, 2010 I've always thought the steel wire in the strap would be a good idea to thwart the slice-and-run thief in the crowd. I'm surprised there isn't one on the market and well-known, but I don't frequent that street environment.
redbaron Posted March 27, 2010 Share #12 Posted March 27, 2010 Pacsafe straps do have a wire in them, but they have a lot of hardware on the ends. I'd also rather hand over my camera than fight for it. If the knife doesn't work on the strap it will on flesh.
