innerimager Posted March 25, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I rarely use auto WB, but I found that the older firmware in the M9 was quite poor in setting tungsten WB. After many days with the update, I tried some images this evening and found the auto WB was much more accurate in tungsten light. Has anyone else noticed this? best...Peter

microview Posted March 29, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 29, 2010 Don't know about AWB but – hooray! – firmware update now gives correct English spelling for 'formatting'.:)
jaapv Posted March 29, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 29, 2010 Every firmware update produces these perceptions. If Leica had done anything to AWB it would have been in the release notes. However, somehow we (all) discover that things are not as bad as we thought when we start trying them with an updated mind.
Shade Posted March 29, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 29, 2010 I still find my m9 awb very awful. But I shoot dng anyway, so shouldn't be much of a problem for me..
D&A Posted March 29, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 29, 2010 Hi Peter, Afetr some preliminary testing on same "static" subject", I can't say I've experienced much change between old firmware and new. When on a shoot where many DNG files are required (taken) under varing and quickly changing lighting conditons, its time effective for post processing, when the WB is in the ballpark. With the M9, I'll do a custom white balance to achive this rather than just let the M9 fly (under tungsten). The M8 with it's latest firware was good enough (in terms of AWB under tungsten) to forgot this last step (custom WB), prior to post prcessing the DNG's.
