Åmund Posted March 23, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, everybody! I´m trying to download the latest firmware from Leica homepage to my brand new MacBook Pro and the process proceeds well until I try to load it on the SD-card. When I click on the downloaded file I get a message tha says something like "there isn´t any program that recognizes the file". Do I have to have a certain software installed before I download the upgrade? Åmund:confused:
Advertisement Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Hi Åmund, Take a look here Downloading Firmware. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mjh Posted March 23, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 23, 2010 The firmware is intended to be installed on your camera, not to be opened by an application. Just follow Leica’s instructions.
ggits Posted March 23, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 23, 2010 Yes - mac had unpack your file. Just put it on the SD card in to level. Not in the folder !
marioalessi Posted March 23, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 23, 2010 Also, if you are are getting the message just by downloading and not clicking on it, it could be you have "open safe files after downloading" checked. That is under Safari-Preferences-General.
Åmund Posted March 24, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted March 24, 2010 I tried once more and followed the instructions, to the detail, this time, but how do I "unzip the file" and "Save the unzipped file m9-1_116.upd at the top level of the card’s folder structure". As you have probably guessed, I´m no computer wizard! Åmund:o:confused:
likalar Posted March 24, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 24, 2010 Amund, I'm at the same level (no wizard), and had the same problem with the new firmware. Here's my best explanation, tho others know better and will hopefully chime in. Leica sends you the file in zipped (compressed) form. You downloaded it to your computer. Now it needs to be unzipped (uncompressed) before your camera can read the new firmware info. It sounds like your computer is not unzipping the Leica file. Mine didn't either, untill I google searched "Mac unzip program". Several choices appeared for free unzipping software. I chose one that sounded right for my old laptop, and downloaded it. The new program unzipped the file, and I was able to drag it (the new unzipped file) onto the empty sd card. I hope this helps, I hope it was accurate enough. jaapv Posted March 24, 2010 Share #7 Posted March 24, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) If you see an .UPD file, your Mac has unzipped it automatically, and you only have to copy it to your SD card.
craig stanton Posted March 24, 2010 Share #8 Posted March 24, 2010 i just did this on mac. Take the zip file as it comes from leica and dump it straight onto the card. The camera will automatically read it and use it - you DONT need to unzip it!!!!! Correction to that - once youve downloaded it go to your downloads in finder and youll find a upd file. Dump this to the card and put it into your camera - done!!!!
Åmund Posted March 24, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted March 24, 2010 If you see an .UPD file, your Mac has unzipped it automatically, and you only have to copy it to your SD card. It is an M9-1_116.upd file now residing on my Mac. How do I copy it? Every time I touch it I get the same cryptic message. Åmund
craig stanton Posted March 24, 2010 Share #10 Posted March 24, 2010 Put your card in the slot and it will appear on the home page. Open up finder - then downloads and your file is there. using the bottom right corner of that screen drag the finder window to the left (make it smaller) so you can see your card on the home screen. click on the upd file/keep it clicked and drag it over the card on the home page. Hope this doesnt sound sarky - if it doesnt do it, erase it and try again. Which mac is it? i just did it with a mac book pro.
