Advertisement Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Hi davidhunternyc, Take a look here I Love My LEICA X1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
phancj Posted August 21, 2010 Share #362 Posted August 21, 2010 Dunno if this is common experience, but the X1 has the most amazing color reproduction, compared to ANY camera I have ever used? This little Titan may be tiny but packs a punch when it comes to color processing, simply true to life colors be it jpeg or raw.
JanCderidder Posted August 21, 2010 Share #363 Posted August 21, 2010 I really like the image from the church(?) Jan. I'm going through a few hundred shots from my vacation right now and I think the AWB tends to lean towards cool/ slightly blue-ish in shots with overcast daylight. Not all but quite a few. All DNGs btw. The flower shot above shows this too although I didn't see the actual scene. At least to my eyes, on my (calibrated) screen. The interior shot seems right. Richard, I like the AWB used in OOC Jpegs, I think it's pretty spot on. I have some trouble with the Raw's though. I shoot Jpeg and Raw and for "normal" shots I tend to use the Jpeg. I only convert from Raw if I want to alter the rendition, this until I get the total PP'ing possibilities under control. I have ordered, and received some new screens which will be of a better quality then my current screen, I don't use them yet since I'm waiting for a "screen calibrator thingie" I think this should help me get in the right direction. David, living within the EU we don't have green money (phewww) well the 5€ note is sort of greenish, but then like you mentioned, it's money and who cares how the colors of cash are rendered!!!! :-)

Yup, the spyder thingy is great, otherwise I notice most screens got a colder bluish tint.
prk60091 Posted August 21, 2010 Share #365 Posted August 21, 2010 You know, since we are talking about realistic floral colors out of the X1, yes, I agree with you that the colors are brilliant but I don't think they are realistic. I have been looking at quite a few photos on here with green foliage and they all have a brighter new spring quality that I don't think is realistic in most natural settings. It is the middle of August in New York and that new spring green has passed. The green foliage in the park, across the street from where I live, is now a darker, denser green. Yet, a couple of weeks ago I shot this photo below. The camera was set on the standard default color setting and was shot in RAW. Notice just how new looking the greens are. It looks like May, not August. To my eyes and calibrated screen the 'new' green appears more to be sunlight and the darker is more shaded. to my old eyes the image and colors look realistic
phancj Posted August 21, 2010 Share #366 Posted August 21, 2010 I second that, on my calibrated screen the colors look natural.
davidhunternyc Posted August 21, 2010 Share #367 Posted August 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks guys, it could be my screen isn't calibrated. I just got a MacBook Pro and I don't know how to calibrate it for color. Hmmm, now that I think about it, the colors looked the same on my old MacBook. BB W Posted August 21, 2010 Share #368 Posted August 21, 2010 They look great to me, too. I'm in New York, as well, though not in the city but rather just outside of it. Even though we're in great need of rain, the leaves on the plants out here are pretty darn green. I have a MacBook Pro, too...a 15" which I bought in June to replace an old one. You can try recalibrating your screen if you feel you need to. Some people swear by those Spyder programs... Your photo's colors are nice and rich. Are you using Aperture or Lightroom, or ? Sometimes reality is not all that it's cracked up to be. However, in this case yours looks good to me!
davidhunternyc Posted August 21, 2010 Share #369 Posted August 21, 2010 Thanks for the compliment but as green as everything is around here, it is not lime green. It is a deep summer green. I am using Aperture to PP. I need to see if I can recalibrate my screen anyway.
h00ligan Posted August 21, 2010 Share #370 Posted August 21, 2010 David, I agree as well (calibrated). Looks good and natural to me, just lighting is bright.
BB W Posted August 21, 2010 Share #371 Posted August 21, 2010 Doesn't look LIme Green to me, either. (I have been using Aperture 3 but since the latest RAW update, it has been behaving very poorly. I'll spare you the details, however. Now I'm starting down the Lightroom path.)

BB W Posted August 21, 2010 Share #373 Posted August 21, 2010 (edited) They're beauties! I'm off to look at them on your Flickr stream to learn more. (But that second one seems very large and are throwing off the viewing of the thread for me. Maybe you can resize it?) P.S. I see they're not on your Flickr quite yet. I'd love to know what sort of exposure you used for these. Very nice night shots. Edited August 21, 2010 by BB W post script

BB W Posted August 21, 2010 Share #375 Posted August 21, 2010 Great use of that selective color and I love the repetition of those rectangles and the reflections on the windows. Nicely done!

JanCderidder Posted August 22, 2010 Share #378 Posted August 22, 2010 I am beginning to appreciate OOC JPEG more and more. The high contrast B/W setting is also very nice. I wish I could choose both output methods; Jpeg/color and Jpeg/B&W instead of DNG as a general setting, only choosing DNG if you see the image will need PP'ing. Phanc, what settings do you use for Jpeg output?
