tommm Posted March 22, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted March 22, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Still no word from Jacobs cameras (I'm #1 on the waiting list for the Cardiff store), so I phoned the Leica shop in Mayfair to see if they had any info from closer to the company. They had 'no idea' when they'd get more X1's, and said they were estimating they'd see some 'in two to three months time'. Â Absolutely rubbish.. I'm getting sick of this... anyone know anywhere in Europe that has X1s and can do international orders?
Advertisement Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Hi tommm, Take a look here UK X1 availability. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

tommm Posted March 22, 2010 Author Share #4 Â Posted March 22, 2010 Two pretty firm recommendations for Leicashop in Vienna then... I emailed them and got a reply within an hour to say that they didn't have any X1's but they'd email me when they did. A paradigm of Austrian efficiency. But still no X1
dkCambridgeshire Posted March 25, 2010 Share #5  Posted March 25, 2010 I have just been advised that my replacement X1 is being dispatched from Leica Milton Keynes today so could be indicative of them receiving a shipment from Solms - in which case UK dealers could have some imminently. Steve Byford at Ffordes has been chasing my replacement via his Leica rep so I owe him a thank you - excellent customer service.  Cheers  dunk

dkCambridgeshire Posted March 26, 2010 Share #8  Posted March 26, 2010 I'm pleased that the replacement X1 was delivered today after sending back my original X1 four weeks ago. I have heard over the grapevine that my original faulty X1 (there was not much wrong with it - just a cosmetic issue) will likely end up being sold as an 'ex demo' camera after being repaired - but in effect it will be new.  So - just a thought ... Maybe it might be worth contacting UK dealers and asking them if you can be put on their list for an "ex demo X1" if you don't mind getting a camera that has been repaired. Mine just needed the lens bezel, with the Leica logo and S/N, re-attaching. And there are / were two tiny pin dents in the lens barrel. Could be one way of getting an X1 quickly ... and maybe cheaper too.  Cheers  dunk
tommm Posted April 1, 2010 Author Share #9 Â Posted April 1, 2010 Having contacted leica dealers all over the UK (Mayfair said June/July), and no word from my dealer or Leica on when they might expect it, I've abandoned all hope of getting one in the UK (tried a few European stores too... same story). Â However, someone posted on Facebook that Quality Cameras in Atlanta have stock, so I phoned them when they opened this morning and they had ONE X1 in store. It's now mine, and will be with me next week. Â A bit of extra to pay on the duty, but as I'm going to Amsterdam with my girlfriend in a couple of weeks. the value of having the camera there more than compensates. Gover Posted April 1, 2010 Share #11 Â Posted April 1, 2010 Hopeless availability, I found at all UK outlets. Make a sizable deposit, join a list etc. ...number 30+ on list. Â Walked into Gstad Leica dealer and just bought one off the shelf. Could not believe my luck. Â Why are UK dealers having such a bad time? ck1 Posted April 1, 2010 Share #13 Â Posted April 1, 2010 One month ago most of the Leica dealers in Warsaw, Poland either had X1's in stock or could get them in within 24 hours. Â The Berlin Leica store also had an X1 plus a seemingly infinite supple of batteries. Â Picked mine up from Poland on my travels, so don't know how postage works doing it this way. tommm Posted April 19, 2010 Author Share #14 Â Posted April 19, 2010 Said Camera arrived and went to Amsterdam (flight was canceled, so decided to drive!). A few early results from me... still getting used to the camera, but some decent results (for me!) Â Amsterdam Slidehow on Flickr
wda Posted April 20, 2010 Share #15 Â Posted April 20, 2010 tommm, your patience and persistence has been rewarded. Well done! A good set of pix, full of interest. If straight from the camera I wonder whether you have adjusted the colour rendering because the reds are rather 'loud' in some shots. Some excellent observations.
