Advertisement Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Hi andybarton, Take a look here rewinding half shot film rolls and reinstalling?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Xmas Posted March 22, 2010 Share #22 Posted March 22, 2010 Hi He has an MP, he buys an M2 so he then has a MP and a M2, so unless he has three films types he needs, he has not problem, other than less space in gbag, sometimes I carry 4x Ms. in a small Billingham, merely needs more foam padding, and I'm pretty old & decrepid... Beaten up shooters are reasonably priced. Noel
andybarton Posted March 22, 2010 Share #23 Posted March 22, 2010 I see. I thought you were suggesting that changing film mid-way through a roll in an M2 is somehow different from any other M. My mistake.
Xmas Posted March 22, 2010 Share #24 Posted March 22, 2010 Hi Andy Thank you for clarifying my suggestion, I apologize I could have said a MP or another M but that would have been an extravagance it would be bad to encourage GAS in people - we might turn into a gear heads forum. M2 (and M4-2 as well) are cheaper in real terms than I've ever seen. The M2 fits in well with a MP as a second body, it may even feel nicer to use. earleygallery Posted March 22, 2010 Share #25 Posted March 22, 2010 Doh! That's cheating, there I was thinking I'd missed some unique feature on my M2 .
kemal_mumcu Posted March 22, 2010 Share #26 Posted March 22, 2010 When advancing through a half-used roll of film (with the cap on) one gets to listen to the sounds and delights of the M mechanism. I shoot slowly through a roll and often do several "outings" on one roll. Swapping rolls mid through is great for adding variety. Just be careful to mark exactly what you've done with the half roll. I ruined 72 shots recently by reshooting a roll that I forgot to mark...but that's a slightly different issue I guess.
Tim B Posted March 23, 2010 Share #27 Posted March 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Slightly off topic: my first SLR had an integrated film cutter. You were supposed to use a second cartridge in place of the take up spool. You then just pulled out the cutter handle. This left the exposed part in the take up cartridge, the unexposed one in the other one. I'm quite sure the labs hated those partial film rolls. Philip, I guess that was the same as my first SLR - an Exacta Varex 1000. Fantastic camera with so many interesting attributes, although left hand wind and front shutter release were eccentric. I was always worried that cutting the film with the built in cutter might leave particles of film in the camera. Despite its provenance I found the glass less than brilliant. I quite often rewind and re-use film, no problems, seems like an obvious thing to do in certain situations. Tim
