stonearabiapix Posted March 20, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all, I've bought my first non film camera in 10 years! M3 picked up on e-bay, I am having a problem with the higher shutter speeds. there isn't any! The camera sounds ok but only a small sliver of light comes through one side. The rest of the shutter speeds are ok. I am guessing that it will need an adjustment and cleaning, Does anyone know how much I should be paying to have this done? Thanks, Tim
Advertisement Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 Hi stonearabiapix, Take a look here Shutterspeeds of 500-1000 don't work, on my M3. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Michael Hiles Posted March 20, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 20, 2010 A competent CLA should be in the range of $350.
hoppyman Posted March 20, 2010 Share #3 Posted March 20, 2010 That's not surprising due to the age of the mechanical shutter naturally. A competent technician shoyld be able to get it purring for you. The whole camera will benefit from a CLA anyway. If you would like to post your locality, I'm sure that someone will recommend a repairer near you.
rob_x2004 Posted March 20, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 20, 2010 Google someone like Sherry Krauter or DAG who are close enough for a phone call and a short courier trip for your camera. Stay with someone competent and local, and whos reputaion is their business, and will be honest and up front, not the lottery overseas.

Sherry Krauter did a 100% job on my M2, and she is in New York, near Albany, I think.
treeplanter Posted March 23, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 23, 2010 Your shutter is "capping" which is when one curtain overtakes the other. As mentioned by others, it's an easy fix. Can even do it yourself if you want. Jim B.
