My firmware update WOES

I've had issues that I don't see reported here.

I upgraded my M9's firmware and was pleased with the quicker formating and review times, etc. After the upgrade, I reformatted my Sandisk 16GB and went out shooting,

After a series of photos, which I reviewed on the LCD to check my histogram levels, I got a message stating that the bottom cover was off. I checked, but it was secure. Then later, another message stating that I had no SD card inserted, which I clearly did. Interestingly, the camera allowed me to keep shooting and again, I chimped. Later that day I discovered that the images, that I had indeed reviewed, were not transferred to the SD card.

Another issue is that oftentime when I want to cycle through images using the wheel's < button, it simply moves me throughout the current image instead of taking me to the previous image. This is intermittent.

I've reinstalled the firmware and hope that it was just a fluke. I should note that I never had any issues with the Sandisk card in the previous firmware version.

BTW, I LOVE this camera, my husband is showing signs of jealously :D

Thanks for responding. I'm just a tad nervous about losing images, and may downgrade to the previous firmware. I'm usually not quick to upgrade firmware as sometimes they are buggy but I was really looking forward to the snappier formatting performance.

BTW, are you neighbors with Garrison? :D

Hello,

I just posted this thread

I'm pretty sure there is something amiss with the new FW - our M9's not recognizing an inserted SD card sound similar.

.....and may downgrade to the previous firmware.

Be careful! At least with the M8 firmware updates I don't think it was possible to revert back to an earlier firmware. I would try to reach Leica support before going this route.

i have not yet updated the new M9 firmware. firstly my .UPD file is unreadable and i havnt found a program that will read it. do you know the file ext it should be.

secondly: should i not download it anyway? as i am finding the M9 a joy to use as it stands.

The file is not 'run' by another program. The file is copied to the root directory of an SD card and the card is then inserted into the camera. The update procedure will begin manually once the camera is switched on.

All of this are covered in the update instructions.

AFAIK, this was only valid for M8 firmware version from 1.x to 2.x. This was because of SDHC card support on version 2.x which wasn't supported on version 1.x

If you try to revert your M8 to version 1.x from 2.x, it will be simply impossible but you can revert from 2.004 to 2.002

My issue is apparently with the 16GB Sandisk Extreme cards because the 8GB cards work fine. I emailed Leica who suggested I format the card in my card reader and I did. Now the 'format' option is greyed out entirely.

I've decided to keep the current firmware for it's snappier performance, I'll just put the 16GB cards aside for now and hope that Leica's next firmware update fixes the bug.

BTW I don't have the blinking lights issue when the camera is powered down.
