Lex Bangladesh Posted March 18, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 18, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, does anyone know if it's possible to use a step-up ring with a Summicron-R 90mm (v1, 2-piece lens hood, 1977)? I'm a bit confused about the info on the filter thread size that I've found. Is it an E55 or a Series 7, or is my info completely wrong? Any help would be appreciated. ismon Posted March 22, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 22, 2010 This is often confusing. The v1 90mm Summicron was designed to use Series VII filters held in place by ring 14161. The actual threads on the lens are 54mm. Close-ups utilize Elpro VIIa. From lens #2770951, the thread size was changed to the more standard 55mm so that E55 filters are used, and the Elpro 3 for close-ups. I'm not sure if anybody makes a 54-55mm step up ring. True Believers have long accepted that Leitz does this stuff to test our faith.
Michiel Fokkema Posted March 22, 2010 Share #5 Posted March 22, 2010 I use a stepup ring 54-55 on my Summi 90. It does not interfere with the retractable hood. It then has the same filter size as my 35 summicorn and 50 summilux. Very convenient. Cheers, Michiel Fokkema
